About this listen

Everyone in Valley Springs knows that the brownies at Story Tree are to die for, so why are they so surprised when it turns out to be true?

Clary St. James is content with her life in Valley Springs and her flourishing bookstore. She’s content, not bored. And if she keeps repeating that to herself, one day, it might just be true.

Everything changes one snowy afternoon, when a handsome stranger takes up residence next door. Tall, dark, handsome, and arrogant, he rolls into town like he owns the place. Before she can complain too much, Valley Springs is rocked by an unexpected murder of a local man.

All eyes turn to Clary’s bookstore cafe, when it’s revealed that lethal brownies were the murder weapon. The once-revered brownies become objects of suspicion, and Clary is forced to defend her talented chef and friend Marie.

It’s a race against the clock as the evidence keeps mounting and secrets come to light. Death by chocolate was supposed to be a marketing scheme, not a promise. Will Clary find the truth? Is her faith in her chef misplaced?

This is the first book in the Story Tree Cozy Mystery series, with a book-loving amateur sleuth, set in a picturesque town with sassy characters!

I enjoyed this book and think it is a good start to a new cozy mystery series. The only thing I would say is I wished It had been longer, just getting into it and it was over, great for a car ride though. The characters were fun, as was the cranky cat that might or might not have saved the day. You will have to listen to find out what I am talking about.
Clary runs a coffee shop come book store but is finding it hard to attract customers to the shop with the bad winter weather and the annoying noise coming from the recently brought shop next door. When the noises stop she is grateful until the police come to her shop to question her cook. The reason the shouting stopped is because someone was murdered and Clary's brownies is the likeliest cause of death. She thought business was bad before but when the village hears her friend and cook has stopped making her famous brownies, things goes from bad to worse when another villager falls to the poison. Clary has no choice but to question everyone connected to the targeted victims before Marie is arrested but where the victims targeted or is everyone in danger from chocolate?
I liked the narrator, she did a good job with voices, even the ones with accents.
