Solid start to a new series
I found Broken Nights to be a refreshing departure from a lot of Super hero stories I have read.
The protagonist has realistic responses and solutions to challenges.
He wasn't trained in the mysterious ways of a secret ancient martial art by the last remaining monk on the side of a mountain in Tibet. No, this guy took MMA classes at a local gym.
He doesn't have a power to enable him to jump 50 feet. No, he practices parkour and can clear a gap maybe 7-10 feet at a sprint.
He doesnt have a super flame/ice/bullet proof suit that will have him walking out of an explosion unharmed. No, he has a bullet proof vest he bought on Amazon and if he gets shot its into the bin with it and time to buy a new one.
I found these aspects endeared the story to me in a nice way. Also the use of modern technology was a nice departure from a lot of DC & Marvel hero's.
However I also found him to be a little naive and I found things fell into place a little too easily at times. Without spoiling anything there was certain aspects of the last third of the book I felt were a bit weak.
I found the narration to be fine. There are a few glitches with the actual recording where a few lines are repeated maybe 4 or 5 times in the story.
Overall I would be interested in listening to a sequel. I would like a bit more character development and grit in the sequel though.
