About this listen
After many years working around the world for an international charity in the late 1960s, Eleanor Trewynn has retired to the relative quiet of a small town in Cornwall. But her quiet life is short-lived when, due to her experience, the Commonwealth Relations Office reaches out to her to assist in a secret conference that is to take place in a small hotel outside the historical village of Tintagel.
Meanwhile, her niece, Detective Sergeant Megan Pencarrow, is investigating the disappearance of a local solicitor when she is assigned to help provide security for the conference. Two African students, refugees from Ian Smith's Rhodesia, arrive for the conference, escorted by Megan's bête noire from Scotland Yard. They are followed by two mysterious and sinister Londoners, whose allegiances and connections to the conference and the missing solicitor are unclear. With a raging storm having trapped everyone in the hotel, the stage is set for murder, and it's up to Eleanor and Megan to uncover the truth before more lives are lost.

Best in series
I throughly enjoyed this book. Lovely narration and ideal cosy murder for the over 60’s.

Great Fun
I've enjoyed the series, but some of the narrator's pronunciation of some words is absolutely excruciating. Wish they would do the research before recording!
That notwithstanding, they are well written and I'm going to get the paperbacks for mum for her birthday.

Country murder rather slow
Pleasant enough but drags along with a wealth of cosy descriptions of rather boring feelings and lengthy descriptions that could be trimmed by reducing the “little old lady” flow.

It was a bit boring
The story was a bit lame and the reader wasn’t that expressive. It was ok though I listened to it all

Excellent story, poor narration by McCaddon
Carolla Dunn's stories and characters are always good - her accurate details of life in the times of her stories add to credibility.
But Wanda McCaddon's narration is very poor. There is no noticeable difference between the voices she gives the characters; even men and women are indistinguishable. That frequently makes her rendering of conversations confusing. Throw in several mispronunciations and emphasis on the wrong words ... Audible really should improve their quality control. Do they just always accept the lowest bid?

Good detective story
It's a good detective story but with some historical inaccuracies. Pound coins didn't exist until 1983, pounds were in notes at that time. There are a few slightly annoying Americanisms that creep in and some mispronunciations bit otherwise weĺl narrated.
