About this listen
This is the story of a tank regiment: the 2nd Fife and Forfar Yeomanry in the Second World War. Raw and visceral personal recollections from the men themselves recall some of the most dramatic and horrific scenes imaginable--the sheer nerve-wracking tension of serving in highly inflammable Sherman tanks, the sudden impact of German shells, the desperate scramble to bail out, and the awful fate of those who couldn't. Even if they made it out of the tank, they were still vulnerable to being brutally cut down by German infantry.
Yet amidst these horrors, the humanity of these men shines through. And as we follow in their tracks, through letters, diaries, and eye-witness accounts, they will change how we think about tank warfare forever.

Another brilliant account of the Second World War
Having read Brothers in Arms, I didn’t think the book would live up to expectations. Fear not, I love this book and I’ll definitely listen to it again.

Accounts of people actually there. Excellent
What I love about this is it is full of first hand accounts by people that were there. What is also nice is it goes right tbrough to the end of the war and beyond.

Great book let down by poor narrator
First the history: It’s great. A well written, accessible and moving account of a single units war. I would recommend it to anyone
Now the bad: the narrator is weird. Badly weird l. For a while I thought it was an ai voice. Pretty much every single Scottish name of place is mispronounced (Kirkcaldy becomes Kir-cal-dee). While that can be forgivable sometimes it can’t be in this case as the unit in question and the majority of its personnel are Scottish. Bizarrely this continues with other non Scottish words. For example the city of Aden becomes Ah-den. What was the producer doing? In the age of Google this isn’t really excusable and, sadly, detracts from what is otherwise an excellent work

Brilliant - fantastic stories
This was a fantastic listen, couldn’t put it down. The stories are really good and you get to know the characters. The only negative is the repetition of ‘2nd F&FY’ after every paragraph. Other than that, brilliant.

A good listen
Really enjoyed this book by Peter Hart. Well written and well narrated. If I had anything negative to say it would be the constant use of name, troop, squadron and 2F&FY after each and every paragraph. However, you soon get used to it and it doesn’t detract from the excellent story. Well worth a look.

Could have been great
I've been an avid listener to over 100 audio books with many of them about military history. This book knits together the real life experiences of the men involved in their own words. The stories are compelling and a great historical record. Unfortunately I think this book was just not my cup of tea. The constant repetition of the company and regiment really broke up the storyline for me. If you're reading books like this you can skip over it give it a quick glance, however in this version I found it really off putting and unenjoyable.

Ffy, Ffy, Ffy, Ffy.
Clumsy, leaden reading. Got through an hour and a half and gave up. The reader has no knowledge of military acronyms and how they are pronounced. I can't understand employing a narrator who does no research.

Spoiled
A great historical story but constantly spoiled by after each couple of sentences the soldiers name rank squad unit ect is stated and it’s maddening
