About this listen

A woman from the present day will do anything to escape the ordeal of medieval Scotland. But will she betray the man she loves?

Lily Stover can no longer cope. Nothing in her previous life as a chef could have prepared her for her grim new reality. Starvation, beatings, and daily terror are her routines. The only flicker of hope is the memory of the massive warrior who once fought to free her. She can still see his golden eyes glaring into hers.

War Master Cadeyrn can no longer sleep. His dreams are haunted by the lovely lass whose face silently pleads to him for help. His patrols range further and further, driven by that vision. But when he finally finds her stumbling through the forest, he embraces a future that is not what it seems.

Engrossing, Adventurous & Brilliant

Cadeyrn is a riveting tale, a Scottish time-travel romance adventure that captivates the readers/listeners from the very start. I was wholly immersed by the alluring world of the Immortal Highlander, Clan Skaraven. The storyline is entertaining, loaded with unexpected twists, turns, suspense, romance, betrayal, and intrigue.

Hazel Hunter is an exceptional author with an incredible imagination. She has created a fantastic world with brave heroes and heroines defying impossible odds. The characters are compelling, clever, and wholly intriguing. As the series moves ahead, we get to learn more about the protagonists and their pasts. Additional antagonists show themselves, and they are ruthless, cunning, pitiless, and vengeful. I can't wait to find out what direction Ms Hunter will take next.

The main characters, Cadeyrn and Lily, have a charged connection, one of passion and mutual desire. I adore them together. There are no unnecessary drams and silly miscommunication. The intimacy between them is well-written and sensual.

The narration by William Macleod is beyond outstanding. He is an exceptionally talented narrator who hones on the characters' personalities, bringing them to life. His telling will sweep you away and draw you into this story. I can't wait to hear the rest of the series!

Paranormal Highlanders... yummy!

First off, I think listeners should listen to the first book before experiencing this because the story definitely continues from the previous book. Each character, as well as the whole plot, has a backstory that needs to be understood to really enjoy this book. The Skaraven are immortal Highlanders who were previously indentured warriors. They were brought back to life to fight their mortal enemies who were also brought back to life and given immortality. This book is specifically about Skaraven warrior Cadeyrn and modern sous chef Lily. She was taken back in time because of her druid ancestors and her potential druid abilities. Cade and Lily both have suffered in their past which is both a hindrance to their attraction and the reason why they are perfectly suited. They have a lot to work through as they attempt to free themselves and the other women captured by the enemy

I liked this book more than the previous. This had more action and plot development but that is to be expected as the first book in the series provides the setting and backstories for the various characters. And this series has a lot of potential as characters change, develop and do the unexpected! Looking forward to the next book!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
