What would have made Chayatocha better?

Create tension and suspense for the Western adventure promised. This was supposed to be a wagon train ambushed on the way to Oregon, remember.

What could Shane Johnson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Classify as a religious story of challenge and salvation. The religion is overbearing, complete with the crucifixion of Christ, Mary at his feet, mentions Samson...........

When a character crosses terrain, duress caused by pursuit, threat or physical pain and exhaustion are brought to life by the author. Paradine crosses barren land where totem poles stand tall and proud, a tribute to their maker, he then goes through a narrow wood and that's it! Not that we're asking for this to be bulked out with description and clever adjectives.

Most people think that 'Robinson Crusoe' was a story about a man on a desert island. That was because the main story line was focal throughout. The classic was actually about god. Trust in providence and he will provide, food, shelter, strength and even a companion 'Man Friday'. Shane Johnson is no Daniel Defoe.

What didn’t you like about Gregory Papst’s performance?

He gives all the characters (especially the demonic ones) exaggerated voices, that don't come across well.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not really. Without being a horror story, it revolves around demonic possession.

Thanks to the previous review, warning of the Christian aspect, I found on Wiki a link to Christian Review's synopsis, where this is #76. It claimed that Shane J can hold together the promised story within a christian theme, a remarkable literary feat. Not put off by the Christianity, it sounded different and a potentially enjoyable novel with some interesting christian insights. Have listened twice for any missed interpretation, but it is just boring.
