About this listen

Corinne Ritter's life changes drastically after she loses her husband twice in the same night. Several months later, the Texas native is en route to a family gathering early on Christmas Eve when an emergency shopping trip lands her in the middle of a robbery-turned-hostage situation. As circumstances deteriorate, she receives a shred of hope in the faceless presence of the 911 dispatcher she only “knows” by the soothing sound of his voice.

Luke Oliver is counting down to the end of his dispatch shift, anxious to begin his chillaxing tropical vacation. When a frantic caller asks for him, he has no idea it’s the faceless Cori he’s assisted on two prior occasions. He remains with her throughout the crisis, becoming her calming influence throughout the storm.

But will Luke be able to walk away when the time comes, or will this single 911 call change his life forever?

Poor Narration lets this down

This is a slightly better than average romance: well written, with enough humour and silliness and a fair few situations requiring 911 calls to overcome. The main characters are quite likeable and there does seem to be some chemistry. Cori is the more irritating of the 2 but to be fair she does seem to find herself in a lot of challenging situations. Luke is of course an Alpha Male with helpful marine buddies when needed and ordinary Mr nice guy the rest of the time. The story held my attention to the end.
There is a bit of god talk, but it fit the characters and wasn't over-egged. The main scenes are set around Christmas time but the book actually covers a wider time period so it is not all about the holiday season.
The narrator really irritated me; he spoke in short bursts regardless of the length or nuance of the sentence. It was rather odd. I also didn't like the way he did some of the voices. However it wasn't so bad that i couldn't listen to the end.
Overall this was a pleasant 3 star book, I think it may have been better read rather than listened to but I did quite enjoy the story.
