Summary
Bloomsbury presents Christmas at the Board Game Café by Jennifer Page, read by Colleen Prendergast.
Kate seems to have it all – wonderful friends, a successful career, and an idyllic life in the quirky Yorkshire town of Essendale. But under the surface, Kate is lonely and yearns for family – especially at Christmas.
With the holidays approaching and the town desperate to attract more visitors, Kate plans an enchanting living Advent calendar to feature the local businesses. But Kate’s picture-perfect plans take an unexpected turn when her ex-boyfriend returns, determined to create the pivotal Christmas Eve display.
Caught between a new spark and an old flame, Kate must pull off her festive campaign and protect her heart. Will she let go of the past and embrace the future she dreams of?

Wonderful plot and great narrator
Although this is part of a series it works perfectly as a standalone. I’ve not read the previous books (although I intend to now) and I was able to follow everything without issue.
The plot rings true of many small villages now where tourists only come in nice weather and second homes are forcing out the locals. That and the wonderful cast of main characters makes the book a wonderfully imaginative but also believable read.
The main character of Kate is very well written. You can’t help but want her to succeed in love where she has helped her friends in the past. She deserves her turn.
I love the idea of the advent calendar too. It is definitely something I would love to see in my own local area. Although set at Christmas it’s festive without overdoing it and therefore a perfect read for any season.
If you are looking for romance, festivity, friendship and family then this is the book for you.
