Summary

Beautifully narrated

I am learning Spanish and highly recommend this audiobook. The narrator does full justice to Gabriel Garcia Marquez’ wonderful story.

A masterpiece

A book that is hard to put down. It's like riding waves, you never want it to end, yet the end is as magnificent as the book and the story is timeless, as relevant today as it was in 1967 when it was published. A must read/listen.

Extravagant maze of a lineage. Esquisite Spanish

At least in Spanish, the writing style is esquisite and enriching, but not simple nor relaxing.

I wished I had known that for this book it may be best for my own experience to keep a simple note of the names of the new characters as they are born; otherwise it can get confusing, but I did find this fascinating and acknowledging of an old practice of naming your descendants as your ancestors.

A lot happens in this book, but (to me) the last couple of minutes are the best of all - I had to rewind and listen again as to enjoy the way that the author chose to culminate it all.

Definitely different to most stories as this is not just a couple or handful of characters in a plot through the entire book. I found the experience more passive but observant in this book, which describes the perspectives of many through long years - towards the end, I almost could feel the dust covering the memories of the characters with which it starts.

I was very pleased with the experience, but I had to be in the mood for it, thankfully now was the right time for me with this book, although I have known the title for decades - I don't think I could have read and finished this book 15 years ago :P

A true Masterpiece!

Fascinating story, Gabriel García Márquez had a grand understanding of life and human nature so the construction of each character relates to something we know unconsciously about overall society. In order to keep in track with the correlation between characters I referred back to the PDF genealogical tree, and also there is a lot of fun content online, sometimes illustrated. I loved the invisible threads that went between the generations and how it's so transferable in our unconscious lives.
