Summary
A unique cocktail of personal memoir, cultural criticism and Hollywood history by the one and only Quentin Tarantino.
The long-awaited first work of nonfiction from the author of the number one New York Times bestselling Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: a deliriously entertaining, wickedly intelligent cinema book as unique and creative as anything by Quentin Tarantino.
In addition to being among the most celebrated of contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is possibly the most joyously infectious movie lover alive. For years he has touted in interviews his eventual turn to writing books about films.
Now, with CINEMA SPECULATION, the time has come, and the results are everything his passionate fans - and all movie lovers - could have hoped for.
Organized around key American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is rollicking and entertaining.
At once film criticism, film theory, a feat of reporting, and wonderful personal history, it is all written in the singular voice recognizable immediately as QT's and with the rare perspective about cinema possible only from one of the greatest practitioners of the artform ever.

Disappointing narration
Unfortunately only the first and last chapters are read by Tarrantino himself which is disappointing. The other guy does a good job but it'd be better if Quentin read the whole thing as its written so much in his voice.

Wonderful
This is so much more than it appears to be. A great deal of info about fantastic movies long forgotten, but also a very revealing read about Tarantino as a person. It exceeded my expectations, and taught me a few things. Thank you, Mr. Tarantino.

Incredible!
What a book. Incredible. 9 hours of QT waxing lyrical about the movies that made him.

I hope he does lots of these!
At first I was disappointed to discover Quentin doesn't narrate the majority of the book. However, the guy who does is actually very good and actually captures those Tarantino inflections without straight up doing an impression.
It's just great. I could listen to his thoughts on film all day and never get bored. Even if you aren't a tarantino fan, his knowledge of film and his take on the selection chosen for the book, would be interesting to anyone.

Loved it
I felt a little let down initially when the narrator changed from Tarantino after the first chapter. I got used to it though and devoured the book. It was not what I had expected but exactly what I wanted. Listening to the artist talk about the movies that shaped him. I want to buy a hard copy now and will be chewing hard on the audio book again shortly. Now if only I could watch all those movies he mentions too.

Phenomenal.
An amazing book of cinema speculation, by unquestionably one of the best screenwriters, directors, raconteurs who ever lived, and who made the best movie of all time. What Django? No. Jackie? No? Basterds? No. True Romance? He didn’t make that one. Dogs? No. Kill Bill. Nada. Duh, Pulp Fiction, you idiot! 😁 Also an incredibly beautiful tale of growing up and finding the gift of meaning in life. This man is a quantifiable genius.

A Quint Take
I enjoyed this book and Quentin’s take on films, films he liked or loved and those he didn’t enjoy or disliked completely. I could listen to him speak about cinema and movies until the cows come home, he’s an absolute pleasure to listen to about his passion.

Awful reading and dishonest marketing
Yet another audiobook with an extremely poor reading. Advertised as Tarantino reading the book, but he only reads the intro. The reader is painful to listen to and can’t deliver Tarantino’s voice.
