Summary

Everyone knows her life story.
But who will win her heart?

Gertie has always had her head in the clouds, wondering what her life might be like if she could only pluck up the courage to leave the remote Scottish island where she was born.

It's the only place she knows, but you can't do anything there without everyone knowing - the glue of this close-knit community is the Knitting Circle, a group of strong, capable and frankly nosy women who work hard, gossip, knit and support each other through thick and thin. At the centre of this sisterhood is Gertie's mum Jean and her grandmother Elspeth, and the three generations of women live together, surrounded by wool, in one small cottage.

When the chance comes to make changes - a new job working with old schoolfriend Morag on the local airline, new friends and even a possible new romance - a world of possibilities opens up before Gertie. Is this the way to make her dreams come true?

Fifteen million copies sold. A readership that spans the world. It's time to fall in love with Jenny Colgan.

Cosy sequel with knitting & relatable characters

Get ready to want to learn to knit or go pick up your knitting needles(!) in a sequel to The Summer Skies, the second in the series about Morag and the tiny airline set in a remote part of Scotland. A set of new and likeable main characters with relatable quirks completes the cast. Close knit being a play on words, taken in both senses of the turn of phrase, which I couldn't help but admire, for it fits in the knitting circle especially and the small community it takes place in too. The knitting and the landscape descriptions are an extra dimension. And being the sequel to the one that came before naturally there is an element of excitement and adventure towards the end. This is both a comforting read and cosy as one of Gertie's woolly socks!

A great book set in a beautiful place, with a couple of niggles

There’s another book written by Jenny that comes before this one that sets up Morag’s story. Read that one first!

A great lovely heartwarming story set in Northern Scotland, my favourite place in the world. Well written as ever.

Jean was annoying, a real codependent parent. Couldn’t see her own affect on her daughter. The scene setting at the beginning of the book went on for quite a long time and I got rather confused.

I loved the descriptions of the landscape and scenery.

Elidih was an amazing narrator as ever. I’ve listened to over 100 audiobooks in the last year and age is by far my favourite narrator. Her timing is excellent, and it’s always clear who is speaking.

An absolute joy!

Jenny Colgan at her absolute best. If there is one audible book you choose this summer make it this. The Scottish setting, the knitting ( believe me on that) the planes and Gertie make for a feel good, dramatic story. Morag from The Summer Skies is there and the airline, but this time a new heroine and a very satisfying adventure.

Classic Colgan

Another absolutely fantastic book by Jenny Colgan, she makes you fall in love with her characters so easily. Eilidh Beaton is my favourite narrator, she really brings the books alive and is brilliant at doing different character voices without it detracting from the storytelling. This book along with the narration is like sitting by a roaring fire in your favourite pyjamas with a mug of hot chocolate!

Storyline

Great narration, different story line but none the less really enjoyable and a great listen, you became wrapped up in the characters and the plot, even room for a sequel!
