It's never simple with you, is it?

1895, and Idiom, riding his horse Leroy towards the Rusty Anvil in search of a poker game, is attacked by something like a gigantic bear. Leroy doesn't make it. It's the start of the reluctant attorney's adventure somewhere in space with the same shapeshifter 'bear' named Gin and several other very disparate alien creatures who look on Idiom as an uneducated idiot, and barely tolerate his company in their endeavors. The aliens are viscious, original, good natured monsters who dislike everyone - and are a great team. Lots of action, fun, excitement and even laughter as some of earth's absurdities are examined and found -peculiar: like one creature riding on the back of another, once it has been 'broken' and given shoes.

Told in the first person by an overly optimistic Idiom, his part is beautifully portrayed by narrator David Swanson, who is a wizard at accents and character voicings, incorporating an echo sound into that of one of the odd aliens. His pacing is good, his good rumoured reading infectious and all is good with good intonation and adherence to the sentiments of the text. An excellent performance.

My thanks to the rights ho!see of Cold Cosmos, who, at my request, free!y gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. So many so called comic space S.F.Books fail to live up to the hype they are given. This one, however, does. Great fun and I'm looking forward to book two..
