Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
There is only one colour that matters, one that unites us all. And that colour is green.
The Royal Marine Commandos have become a byword for elite raiding skills and cutting-edge military operations. They are globally renowned, yet shrouded in mystery. With unique insight and authority, Commando captures the essence and heart of this revered military unit then and now, exploring their role patrolling the high seas and policing coastlines around the globe, and revealing their rich history and what it means to win and wear the legendary green beret.
With full and exclusive access to every level of the organisation, author and former Royal Marine Monty Halls tells the real stories of extraordinary individuals through a period of historic global unrest: from Future Commando forces on high-profile drug busts to Mountain Leaders training across glaciers north of the Arctic Circle, from medics who serve as global first responders in conflict to wounded veterans raising vast sums to support their brethren in the Corps Family. These are the modern vanguard of a legendary unit, descendants of the misfits and eccentrics who were so effective and feared in WW2 that Hitler famously ordered them to be shot on sight.
Accompanying a major BBC series on the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War, Commandos is an unforgettable glimpse into a rarified world of danger, drama and valour.

A humbling account of the bravest of warriors
Monty is an excellent narrator who keeps your interest throughout . He uses his connections experiences with great humility and his own service as a Royal Marine , which I wasn't previously aware of , to great effect , giving it an authenticity which I appreciated.

A most interesting listen
I’m thoroughly glad I bought this title as it’s the sort of account full of personal memorise that I like to read. This book will have you thinking, laughing, crying and a roller coaster of emotions in between as you listen to the extraordinary exploits of Royal Marines and Monty’s self-effacing memories of interviewing the the various parties involved. The epilogue is particularly poignant

Utterly, utterly brilliant
I’m not actually sure I possess the appropriate to describe just how good this book is. Inspirational and insightful don’t even scratch the surface.
I’m an individual of no military background, nor am I particularly inclined militarily. I’m not actually even sure why I decided to buy this book, but I’m certainly glad I did. Monty is clearly deeply passionate about the Commandos, and the book is all the better for it. You can hear and feel the awe in his voice as he tells the stories of those he sat down with, and he brings their tales to life harrowingly in the best way possible. A great ode to just how elite these people really are.
I have over 150 separate titles in my library as of now, and I have absolutely no second thoughts when saying that this is the best I’ve listened to. I can see myself revisiting this many times in the coming years. Cheers Monty.
