Summary

What happens behind the closed doors of the Roman Catholic Conclave? The mysterious rituals surrounding the congregation of cardinal electors responsible for electing a new pope is brilliantly researched by Robert Harris, bringing an age old tradition to life. Set against the swirling of religious theory comes an explosive political drama that will have you on the edge of your seat.

The Pope is dead.

Behind the locked doors of the Sistine Chapel, 118 cardinals from all over the globe will cast their votes in the world's most secretive election. They are holy men. But they have ambition. And they have rivals.

Over the next 72 hours, one of them will become the most powerful spiritual figure on earth.

Another great book by Harris and well narrated too. I really enjoyed the subject matter not something I'd usually pick up but I love Robert Harris and I'm glad I listen to this book.

Another 'page turner' from Robert Harris

If you have enjoyed Robert Harris over the years, as I have, then you won't be disappointed with this book which offers fiction within a well researched historical or factual framework - in this case the workings of a papal selection (conclave). The plot unfolds at a satisfying pace and although you may predict some of the twists and turns you won't get them all. It's not a book that's likely to linger in the mind for years but Harris rarely disappoints and this is no exception - certainly a safe bet for some good entertainment and to pass some time if that's your objective.

Enthralling

What did you like best about this story?

The detail and subtlety is weaved through such an enthralling tale. Was actually looking forward to the commute to listen to it.

Any additional comments?

Hard to properly give an opinion on the story without spoiling the ending so wont, but thought it was delicately handled. Well narrated as well which is a bonus. Loved it.
