A fascinating listen

This audiobook is raw, eye-opening, and oddly entertaining. The stories are wild, and the author's honesty about the highs and lows of managing low-income housing is interesting, and there is plenty to learn from their experiences. The book made me laugh at some of the crazier situations but also cringe at the challenges they faced. If you're curious about what goes on behind the scenes in the world of being a landlord, this audiobook is a fascinating listen.

a great learning material

Although it's a mix of many stories on other people, looking at it (or listening to it) from a real estate investor, especially a rental property investor's perpestive, somehow it's a great learning material for me. I just started investing into rental units not long ago. and still in the phase of learning and building my experience. i've talked to quite a few people in the industry. but this book still tells me a lot stories that i haven't heard of. quite fascinating to have found this book. i'd highly recommend it.

Very interesting and instructive

If you are a landlord or planning to go into real estate, this is a must-read. What the author endured is remarkable, and I, for one, would have given up a long time ago. Interesting stories, and we can only learn from them. This is a very good book, and these young people are adorable for their achievements. Highly recommended!

This book felt so real.

The stories felt so real, like things you’d never believe could happen until they do. It made me think about all the risks I hadn’t considered before. I felt every emotion—shock, frustration, even a little hope. If you’re thinking about renting to tenants, this is a must.

This book was such an eye-opener! The author doesn’t sugarcoat anything about managing Section 8 housing—it’s raw, hilarious, and at times downright wild. From tenant dramas to gang encounters, I was equal parts entertained and horrified. But underneath all the chaos, there are real lessons about perseverance, problem-solving, and the potential rewards of investing in low-income housing. like hearing a friend share their wildest stories

Listening to Confessions of a Section 8 Landlord felt like hearing a friend share their wildest stories over coffee. The narrator’s voice added just the right balance of humor and seriousness, making the experience both engaging and easy to follow. The tales are full of surprises—some shocking, some funny, and others downright frustrating—but they offer valuable insights for anyone curious about managing low-income properties.

While the audiobook does an excellent job showing the ups and downs of this type of real estate, it sometimes felt like the focus was more on the chaos than on practical advice. That said, it’s a great listen if you’re looking for a raw, entertaining peek into the realities of property management.

Understand the Human Side of Affordable Housing

This is a must-read for anyone even remotely interested in real estate, especially if you’re thinking about getting into low-income housing.

It was a real eye-opener for me, as the author gives you a raw, unfiltered look at the world of managing Section 8 properties. And she doesn’t sugarcoat anything—she dives right into the challenges of dealing with difficult tenants, building issues, and the realities of being a landlord in a rough neighborhood.

Through this unfiltered look at being a landlord, you also gain valuable insight. You’ll find yourself laughing at the craziness of some situations (like tenants running hot water 24/7 to heat their apartments) but also learning valuable lessons along the way. Sara shares the mistakes she made in her first years as a landlord, and you’ll get a real sense of how she navigated everything from plumbing disasters to working with local housing organizations to help tenants get back on their feet.

It’s these behind-the-scenes stories that give this book its heart—and its value for anyone looking to get into the business. There’s plenty of practical advice here, like the importance of doing your homework before purchasing a property, and how critical it is to hire a competent property manager. These insights alone make the book worth the read.

I think that if you’re looking into investing in Section 8 properties, you have to read this book. But it will give anyone a feeling of what it's like to be a landlord in tough neighborhoods. You will get a realistic view of the challenges and rewards of such a venture.

I’d definitely recommend it. You’ll learn a lot, and it’s a fast, engaging read that’ll keep you hooked from start to finish.
