Summary

Bloomsbury presents Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

Never trust an assassin.

Celaena’s story continues in this second book in the #1 bestselling Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas.

Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become the King’s Champion. But she is far from loyal to the crown. Though she goes to great lengths to hide her secret, her deadly charade becomes more difficult when she realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. Her search for answers ensnares those closest to her, and no one is safe from suspicion—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a princess with a rebel heart.

Then, one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie...and what she is willing to fight for.

The second book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series returns listeners to a land destroyed by liars, where one woman’s truth is the only thing that can save them all.

Better than the first one

This review is for the people that didn't really like first book, but are willing to give the series next try.
There is improvement. As story is still predictable, it didn't bother me so much in this book. Characters are less annoying, maybe with exception of captain of the guard, who I still hate. We learn more about the king and his intrigue, which is fairly good story, and saves some (insufferable then) installments from first book.
I grew to like main character. I just wish she wasn't so praised by everyone around, but oh well... young author common habit to do that.
The best part of this book, is that by the end it changes Celenas environment. She is leaving castle and two dorsk behind, hopefully for good, and for the first time I fairly don't know what happens next. Finally!
With all the flaws it is still not bad entertainment.
I will try third book, to see if it gets better. Will post review about how it went.

Everything I hoped it would be and more!

After reading the first book I didn't expect it could get any better but I surprisingly loved the second one even more.

It has to be said that Elizabeth Evans is a fantastic narrator.

Sarah J Maas is a Queen, her writing takes you to worlds that you only dream to be able to imagine.

Lets just say I'm obsessed with the series...on to the next.

pretty good entertainment.

I like the story and the concept .
The biggest drawback is the main characters bouncing between beeing helpless like a damsel in distress to invincible badass .

Longer than it needed to be

A bit inconsistent. Liked bits of it, found it got better towards the end. Some of the characters are annoying.

Brilliant

Typical brilliance of one of my favourite authors. The voice actor has managed to capture me throughout and made it enjoyable to listen to.

This was a ride

This book was great, I read the first one and I was instantly hooked. This one, though, was somehow better than the last one and it's led so well into the next book. So much happened, there was a lot of character development and I really enjoyed the story. I was a bit thrown by the change in character voices a whole book in but I noticed this version was published this year and my throne of glass audiobook is from 2014 or something. I did wonder if that had something to do with the huge change in every character voice but Caleana (forgive my spelling this is an audiobook after all!) I'm hoping as the rest of the audiobooks are from the original publisher date there won't be another inconsistency. If there is I'm going have to try and find an older publication because it may drive me nuts having one book from 2021 with a different narration style! Either way these are great books so far and I'm pretty much trying to find any excuse to binge listen to them (I've even taken up embroidery and I'm 24 😂)

Twists

The shift in the story, alliances formed and trusts broken make for a listen to be finished. Can’t wait to start the next
