About this listen

Good or honest? It's my modern-day version of "truth or dare". And I find myself taken with a man who poses that question. A man who's my boss. With a gruff voice and hardened eyes. Gray, like the color of the line he toes.

I think I have him figured out. I think I get what he's about. Then I dig up the truth, and everything changes.

Maximus:

I needed a secretary. Someone who wasn't my twin brother. Then Christie appeared, and she challenged my rule: Never get personally attached to business.

Her thick curves call to my body. Her innocent eyes hide a confidence that drags me in.

What piques my interest is her thighs. But what gets me in trouble is her intelligence.

The Devil hath no fury like when Christie is scorned. But I'll gladly walk through Lucifer's lair to keep her safe.

Quick and Steamy!

My second Kelli Walker book, Darkened Desire is one that has good characters and an interesting story. Christie is not the typical heroine. She is curvy, smart, and is need of a job. She gets one through her best friend, and as she gets to know her boss, Maximus, there is an obvious attraction. Their relationship from there is a slow burn. I enjoyed this short listen. It has a good story line, and a message from Christie that makes you think about "good" men. Maximus is a driven business man and has his ethics admirable. These two are fun to get to know, are easily relatable and there are a few heart melting scenes! Narrated by Jerry Beebe, the story flowed easily. At times his voices were difficult to distinguish, but for the most part, he did a good job and gave an entertaining performance.

Could be better executed

I think the MCs spent most of their time in their heads, the inner monologue is strong. There is little action and I find the plot predictable and thin.

I still enjoyed the audiobook regardless the flaws, but I think it could be better executed, maybe shorter and more concise.

I like the narrator a lot, his female voice is really good, not whiny and not looking like the FMC is 80 or something. The pacing is good and the intonation too, but there wans't much angst, action or funny moments to make the narrator truly shine.

I was given this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
