Summary
In Turin angekommen, bezogen Sherlock Holmes und Dr. Watson zuerst ihre Unterkunft und machten sich anschließend sofort auf den Weg, um mit Kardinal Fassati zu sprechen. Es stellte sich heraus, dass nur drei Leute einen Schlüssel zur Grabtuchkapelle besaßen. Der Kardinal selbst und zwei seiner engsten Vertrauten, der ältere Pastor Spina und ein jüngerer Pastor namens Milani.
Als Watson abends noch zu einer Gassirunde mit seinem Hund aufbrach, machte er im Park eine Entdeckung. 13 Männer hatten sich um eine Tafel versammelt und speisten. Einer davon trug das Turiner Grabtuch. Der Fall schien gelöst, doch es traten schnell weitere Duplikate des verschwunden Tuches auf.
