Summary

A former slave fighting for justice. A reclusive warrior who no longer believes it exists. And a dark magic that will entangle their fates.

Ripped from a forgotten homeland as a child, Tisaanah learned how to survive with nothing but a sharp wit and a touch of magic. But the night she tries to buy her freedom, she barely escapes with her life.

Desperate to save the best friend she left behind, Tisaanah journeys to the Orders, the most powerful organizations of magic Wielders in the world. But to join their ranks, she must complete an apprenticeship with Maxantarius Farlione, a handsome and reclusive fire wielder who despises the Orders.

The Orders's intentions are cryptic, and Tisaanah must prove herself under the threat of looming war. But even more dangerous are her growing feelings for Maxantarius. The bloody past he wants to forget may be the key to her future...or the downfall of them both.

But Tisaanah will stop at nothing to save those she abandoned. Even if it means gambling in the Orders's deadly games. Even if it means sacrificing her heart.

Even if it means wielding death itself.

Contains mature themes.

Good story, but..

Good story whit caracters you will really like and want to know what happens to.
Disent world building. Not to diatailed you get bored, but you get a good sense of the world they live in and where they are.

The female narration was good, no complaints there.
The male one drove me on my nerves. He speak fast and takes a sharp breath for almost EVERY sentence...

That alone made me wast to stop reading. But if you can get over it, its a good book and i will read the next one.

Male narrator is terrible

I listened to most of the book in the female narrator's pov and it was great, then the male narrator took over and to be honest I'm about to DNF it cause I just can't stand it. He sounds as if he's constantly out of breath, taking sharp breaths at every pause, he's monotone and sounds like a really old man which Max is not.
It's wild how the wrong narrator can ruin a good book.

Gutted I couldn't continue

this story looked like it had it all..... I don't mind books slow to get into but I struggled with this. The main gripe is the male voice. Max is supposed to be 29 from what Google tells me. There's no brooding voice, no real effort to make him seem younger. Honestly I must have skipped over how old he was supposed to be cos the voice I hear is of an old or much older than supposed to be- man. Once I'd solidified that in my mind I just couldn't imagine an being young and it ruined whatever romance was potentially blossoming. I have gotten about halfway and had to give up because I'm just not feeling it at all. Which makes me sad because the story looked like it was going to be epic!

Poorly edited

4.5!!!
“Men want power because it makes them feel good. Women want power because it lets us do things.
What will you do if you have a lot of power (magical or otherwise), what is really “to do good”?
I was a bit hesitant to start this book, but I must say it was a positive surprise. Though the book cover might hint to YA, I can assure you the content is not.
It is beautifully written; you have action, thriller, romance and strong and resilient characters.
I will definitively be reading the next books on the series.
Unfortunately, the narration was poorly edited. One can hear the female narrator breaks and swallows.. and someone was chasing the male narrator, like he was jogging while reading the lines…
Once you force yourself to ignore these very annoying details you will be able to focus on the very good book.

The Great Gaspy - terrible male narrator

The story was great but the male narrator sounds like a creepy guy that would approach you at a bus stop. He didn't sound at all like Max. Read with terrible intonation and gasps loudly with each intake of breath before every other sentence. So distracting. Have no idea how he got that job.

Good story, awful narration

Forced myself to finish this. it's a good story but the male narrator is just plain awful. Will not be listening to the rest of the series because of him.

The male narrator is so bad

I absolutely love this story and the female narrator is wonderful. The male narrator really ruined the story for me though. His rising inflection and intonation really put me off unfortunately :( felt like he was trying to do an odd Jason Statham impression or something, not great at all

Good book, terrible male narrator

Overall I actually liked this book, but the male narrator totally ruined it for me. The female narrator did a wonderful job, but everytime he spoke I literally groaned in frustration.

Great story. Buy the book not this audio version

I loved this story but the character speech in the narration nearly ruined this book for me.
