the first book was good but this has more bite

the first book was a bit pedestrian with Jake coming to terms with his inheritance and local life, but in this second he's found his feet and there's more bite to the plot

Great plot, twists and turns and jeopardy with a very satisfying conclusion, great characters with smart details too.

Deserves 5 stars but for narration. I feel mean, saying this but the narration was exhausting! At the end when the action was building it was spot on but most of the time it sounded as if it was written in bold, capitals, italics, underlined! Such staccato urgency when all we need is clear sometimes lyrical storytelling. Jakes home, music food … these all deserve a more nuanced tone, I think.

Excellent

I really enjoyed this book. It was an excellent sequel and lived up to first book. I liked the characters and enjoyed the narration.

I am so loving this series

Another excellent book and audiobook by the author. You are gripped from first to last page. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator is perfect for the characters. Great plot and well paced. Looking forward to Stig's next book in the series.

sorry Stig, not for me

I tried to stick with this as I really like Stig Abell as a journalist and thought the initial book was an OK debut. But this was just too hammy...the main character may be Stig's dream self but this feels like a substandard Midsummer Murder episode...maybe his bathroom editor needs to get more fussy!

Ok if you like wading through treacle otherwise don’t bother!

It was just like wading through treacle and I gave up with this book about 3/4 of the way through. The blatant stupidity of the main character in his choices was intolerable.
