About this listen
John Porter, hero of the original Strikeback novel and TV series, returns in an exciting adventure when old enemies attack the SAS.
It's 1999. A bitterly cold morning in the Brecon Beacons, and the soldiers trying out for SAS Selection are preparing to face their toughest test yet. Overseeing the soldiers is John Porter: once a promising young Blade, now a broken man and a drunk, seeing out his days in the Regiment Training Wing.
But before the Fan Dance can begin, six masked gunmen carry out a devastating attack. Dozens of soldiers are killed. In the aftermath of the massacre, and with a government desperate for action, Porter and another surviving operator, John Bald, are taken to a secretive briefing in London. Their orders - to hunt down and kill those responsible for the attack.
What follows is a deadly game of kill or be killed as Bald and Porter lead a Strike Team across Europe on a blood-soaked mission of revenge. But as they draw closer to their ultimate target, the men discover that there is a greater threat - much closer to home....

Brutal
Loved it, strong on the violence told it as it must be in real world. I Hope the firm is not as bad as they say.

Accent
Incredible story and detail, accent of performance was poor and the intonation from the Scottish character was annoying.

Typical Chris Ryan!!!
This is the third Chris Ryan book I have read. They all start off brilliant, but the endings?????? So weird. It's as if he either wants to create an ending that will be the start of another book, or he does not know how to end a book. We know it doesn't have to be happy ever after, but he could at least give his books a decent finish.
I will persevere with a couple more as they really are worth listening to.
Maybe I'll get used to the weird endings.

good story
I enjoyed this book, however it is very graphic violent. I found myself jumping forward to miss the torture sections.

A good listen
A good story and a good listen. Author however is some sort of dinosaur with his Scouse stereotyping.

Disappointed
Having listened to 2 previous Chris Ryan books and thoroughly enjoyed them (Warlord is excellent, give that a go), this was disappointingly slow to get going; repetitive; questionable in the storyline occasionally; and I could not get into the narrator. I won’t give up on Chris, I just think this was very average compared to what I know he is capable of.
