Summary

They say that the cure for love will make me happy and safe forever. And I've always believed them. Until now. Now everything has changed. Now, I'd rather be infected with love for the tiniest sliver of a second than live a hundred years suffocated by a lie.

There was a time when love was the most important thing in the world. People would go to the end of the earth to find it. They would tell lies for it. Even kill for it. Then, at last, they found the cure.

It grew on me

I very much enjoyed most of this book, but the teen romance parts were almost enough for me to give up. There's quite a lot of "falling into his eyes" and "my skin was on fire whenever he touched me", but I stuck it out through those parts, and the rest of it is intriguing enough for me to download the next in the series. The narrator is excellent - a really wonderful performance.

Hunger Games meets Twilight

Dystopian future? Check. Run down, oppressed people? Check. Mass amounts of overly descriptive romance? Check.

The beginning of the book was great. I liked the premise, it made sense, but then it quickly descends into the well worn formula...

I've relisted to this book maybe five times by now. It is beautifully narrated, poetically written, thought provoking, romantic, emotional, and engaging. I adore it!

Good storyline if you like Wattpad

Title says it all. Growing up on Wattpad and tumblr fanfics if does sound like and read like a fanfic. Not a fan of the narrator, quite slowed paced not very interesting. Storyline is decent but nothing gripping. Just about a surgery everyone has to get then becomes blank af. Don’t know if I fully understood the plot but it is very predictable- reminds me of divergent ?

A great start to a brilliant trilogy

What did you like about this audiobook?

I love the way the story is not predictable and there are plenty of twists and turns. You start to really feel for all the characters with all that's going on and all there emotions.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

As soon as I finished the first book I had to start the second, had to know what was going to happen.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

The author presents character information and there backgrounds really well makes you feel like you really know them.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

It took a little time to get used to the narrator but all in all very good.

Awesome narrator!

I loved the sound of Sarah Drew's voice, and the way she distinguishes between different characters' voices :)

So my thoughts on Delirium are that I enjoyed it, not the way one enjoys something new and fantastic but more something familiar and easy going. I don't think the story itself is unique, it has an aeon flux or hunger games feel to it (imprisoned population unaware that they are being suppressed in some way and afraid of what might lie outside their walls, but secretly hoping its something better than the slog they are stuck in).

The main character is very emotional and irrational - which is what you expect from a book about love being a disease - but if you don't like reading books where the main character makes things worse for herself because of her irrationality, then this is definitely not the book for you.

For me I needed a break from my most recent string of books, American Psycho, Demon Cycle, Broken Empire... All very dark, violent and sort of depressing. I needed some change, and this book was a welcome one! Don't get me wrong, this book isn't a happy story, just one filled with hope, well in my opinion anyway.
