About this listen
One year of marriage. One year of horrific abuse he claims she self-inflicts. One year of waiting for that one moment of opportunity - and courage - to escape.
Eris Raye has nothing left to lose after her father's murder. Terrified, she disappears into the darkness and away from her sadistic husband. Alone and vulnerable, she finds an unlikely ally in a local cop who seems just as determined to expose her husband for what he is and what he's done. But neither are prepared for the dark, disturbing secrets they uncover from the past - or her husband's vengeful desire to silence her forever.
Now, he's getting closer, and she's running out of time.

Little to Recommend This One
Desperate . . . it would be easy to play on that word. I was really surprised at this book, it came over very poorly. I was scratching my head as to how an author of several novels could release something like this. The characters don't seem to have been given any development or consistency,
It bravely tries to deal with some hard issues such as domestic violence / cruelty but it does so with a palpable lack of empathy. The main character goes through some incredibly harrowing experiences and then almost immediately we are plunged into a parody of Mills and Boone. In addition the key twist is so vividly signposted that it's really no twist at all.
I have read that there was an "uncut" version of this book also. I almost wonder if in trimming the book some of the meaning was lost As it stands, this is a story that needed more depth, subtlety and consistency. Sorry, not one I can recommend.
