Story
The Tasmanian's unofficial motto is et anima una: of one mind. Somehow, the elite special forces group performs like they have one mind. Jolie understands on a subconscious level, but not on an intellectual level. This is an important level for Jolie, as she has a platoon and no stated objectives while on assignments and, therefore, easy to lose her connection with the main force. A problem that could make her unfit for the Tasmanians.

Staying alive afterward was the hard part. Kazaks guarded individuals whose lives were deemed critical to the security of the United States. Story
An insidious cabal has decided to change the direction of the United Alliance of Stars (UAS) with a coup d’etat - but not through a military takeover. They have devised a subtler coup: the manipulation of the Committee, the 15-star system that sets policy for the UAS. The UAS Committee enlists their de facto troubleshooter, Anna Paulus, to shut down the cabal, but they insists she leave the NIA and manage UAS Committee Security. For Anna it’s a nightmare scenario, leaving her safe world for a completely new environment dominated by macho men with years of combat experience.

Summary
"Devils to me," a siren call that would bring every Tasmanian running to answer no matter what they were doing.
Repeated over and over by those answering the call, it would empty bars or a base or a city of Tasmanians, because no member of the elite unit would desert a brother in trouble, reinforcing their unofficial motto, Et Anima Una, Of One Mind.
Jolie is the only female in the elite all male Tasmanian special forces group and loving every crazy minute of it; well, except for being made a squad leader. A duty no Tasmanian would want since it means having to make life and death decisions that impact their brothers' lives.
But Jolie's true father's emphasis on Ready, in Ready, Aim, Fire, has proved beneficial on each of her previous assignments, earning her the call sign Fox and giving her a unique latitude on her assignments - a squad leader with no orders or direction. Because, while Jolie can be unpredictable, she never disappoints and always has her squad in the thick of the action.
As one Tasmanian commander commented, "that exemplifies Et Anima Una like nothing else could. Jolie walks off to only the space gods know with no orders or direction, and we think it's normal."

Great but not quite as good as the first
This was a really fun enjoyable book. I'm still not sure why a spacefaring drone-weilding nation needs to send small units of special forces across the galaxy to solve small disputes but I don't care, it's fun.
The main character is still the same, a Mary Sue who for some reason is compelling to read about. Her end of mission stories are cripplingly cringeworthy though so I skipped those even though they were only 2-3 mins. All the other characters think she's an incredibly funny super-genius and she plays up to the girl aspect a lot more in this book. A special forces soldier jumping in the air to make cheerleader poses for the amusement of all her male colleagues was a bit weird for example.
The plot is still episodic but it works here with each mission. Some of the stuff about the military officers hurling insults would normally result in discipline of some sort rather than be completely ignored. I also felt that having the Tazmanian leadership structure explained in each episode was repetitive.
The narration was a bit slow. I reckon you need to speed it up to at least 1.1x.
Overall though I really enjoyed this as mindless fun and have already added the next book to my wish list.

If You Liked The First Book, You’ll Like This One
This is the second in a continuing series of books, which means you will have a much clearer understanding of the characters and the universe in which the story is set if you read the first book. There is no cliffhanger.
Joile’s career in the Tasmanian SFG is going from strength to strength. She loves her brothers in arms and enjoys being their only little sister. However, she still tries to help other women in the armed forces work towards developing their abilities in line with her own training by her father. She also continues to be punished for her success with ongoing leadership of a platoon because she seems to always find the action and perform against all odds. No one understands quite how she does it, but the Tasmanians are smart enough to utilise her unique abilities. Other members of the armed forces aren’t sure about her, but her brothers love her and her ability to get them into trouble that only copious amounts of fighting can get them out of.
Essentially this book is more of the same as the first book. If you enjoyed that book, you will enjoy this book. There isn’t a lot of character development, though there is some, there isn’t a much of an overarching plot line through the series, but there is some, and again there isn’t much world building beyond what has already been done in the first book. However, the characters are consistently interesting and the plot is entertaining and filled with action. The narrator has the same consistent high level of performance as the previous book and I enjoyed her work.
This book is not challenging, nor a great work of fiction, but it is an entertaining and well written one. I will definitely read the next one in the series.

Great second book.
I have both books in audio and kindle and of course am looking forward to book three. This series of books puts a different perspective on Special Force Type soldiers. Mostly that these forces are useful in specific military situations and operations.
Again Emily Woo Zeller does a great job on narration. Bringing the characters to life and giving even more believability to the story.
So yes five stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟.

Action Story That Lacks a Plot Line
Pros: Pretty good fight scenes and the main protagonist is a woman. A realistic assessment of how a woman will rarely be able to match a man's physical strength - so, she must depend on fighting skills that are not strength based.
Cons: Repetitive. If you remove the repetitive explains of several of the key points also mentioned/explained in the 1st book - the book would have only 4 hours or so. Seriously. The protagonist explaining the structure of the Tasmanians. The protagonist sitting down to "quiet mind or calm her fears" in the middle of a battle. The fear of leading and what that entails - but doing it anyway because of her father's training. The lack of development of the characters. Also, the absolute lack of a plot. This read as a series of encounters that did not lead anywhere. There was no overarching issue to solve or resolve.
Final Thoughts:
Would I read it again? Nope.
Could I recommend it? Only with a disclaimer of what is lacking.
What I buy it again? Nope.
Would I ask for refund? No - I was actually able to complete the book.
The narrator? The best thing about the book - but really needs to work on male voices - they all sound the same. However, she did make the book more interesting that it was.

Too fast to be seriously engaging
Not as good as the first book. The deployments deployments come at you in rapid fire and are very short. Just as you start to get involved and committed it is wrapped up. By the end of the book the post appointment antics where Jolie tells what happened become very common place and unengaging. Still a very well-written book as a whole but it just felt like a filler episode from a good show

A fun read
Love the story line. Really enjoy the quips. Can't wait to hear the next.
