About this listen
A moving and lyrical memoir about life, love and loss, from a true giant of Gaelic games.
In a frenetic seven-year spell at the outset of his senior managerial career, Mickey Harte led Tyrone to four Ulster Championships and three All-Irelands. It was a run that shifted football’s balance of power, changed the way the game would be played for more than a generation and cemented his reputation as one of the most transformative figures in GAA history.
Then, in January 2011, the visitation of a shocking tragedy changed everything: Mickey’s daughter, Michaela, was murdered while on honeymoon in Mauritius, and the Harte family, grief-stricken, awoke to find themselves at the centre of an international news story.
Devotion, the product of a collaboration between Mickey and author Brendan Coffey, is many things. The story of a family’s decade-long struggle to come to terms with an almost unimaginable loss. A meditation on the ways in which faith, community and sport can sustain us in our most difficult moments. And, finally, a portrait of one of Irish sport’s true icons, as he brings one legendary era to a close and steels himself for a final assault on the history books.

An extremely brave story
Mickey is a shining example of bravery in times of unimaginable difficulty. This offers hope to anyone who is struggling in dark times. As an Armagh supporter Mickey was one of our greatest foes. After reading this I only have the upmost respect.

Story about Family, Community and Faith
Not for the faint hearted. Interesting and emotional to hear how he's dealt with the tragedies in his life. For some, some chapters may go to deep into religion/faith.

Reflective and motivational.
Excellent read. Really helped me put some things into perspective. Will interest and help, sports managers, players, parents and those affected by tragedy. Well read. Enjoyed the sport mixed with the reflective and spiritual. Well done.

A biography of one of life's true gentlemen
A fantastic biography of a Tyrone legend, the narration was superb. I couldn't switch it off finished in 3 days. A wonderful insight into the workings of one of the greatest GAA coaches of all time and how he has overcome some of the most harrowing experiences any person could go through, it is amazing how Mikey's faith has taken him through very dark periods of his life and even though I'm sure he will never get over them how his positivity gets him out of bed each morning. I would definitely recommend this even if you are not a Gaelic fan.

Mikey Harte
If you like GAA you’ll probably enjoy this book. He also talks about the tragic murder of his daughter in the middle of the book and how he coped through that difficult time in his life.
