Summary

The Best So Far
Great story. Narration is perfect, Colin Mace brings the characters to life. Really loving this series. The characters are totally believable combined with a great storyline makes a fantastic book, looking forward to the next in the series.

Acceptable storyline
Guide dogs would never drop trained dog at door. Pairing, training under supervision supporting. Users take a while to settle down with the dog.

Great read and excellently narrated
Since his days at the NME i have read most things Tony has done, even today his column in GQ is the main reason for buying the magazine. This is an excellent read and hooks you almost straight away.. 'Southend Shoe Shine' indeed..!!

Max does it again
First DC Max Wolfe for me. I used to love crime and thriller but have gone off it in the last year. Sam old same old.
So now it has to be gripping from the start to keep me interested
It’s a sad but real storyline of human trafficking. Lots of shady and vile characters as well as the vulnerable frightened women who they prey on made for a very realistic tale.
The back ground story of Max and his life woven through, makes me certainly consider looking at another book in the series
Superb narration by Colin Mace who I will look out for again.

Not for the faint hearted
This book takes you to the underbelly of London you want to pretend doesn't exist. It also explores the ties that bind a family and the ties which force them apart. It is also about the possible cost of pursuing that dream career. Tony Parsons maintains the excellent standards in this series and Colin Mace continues to captures every mood of Max Wolfe. Max was not physically bashed up as much in other books but I think his emotions took a good bashing. This is a book to challenges your current comfort and explores the sacrifices of other to help you maintain it as well as the ones who find profit in maintaining your comfort.

Excellent, but...
The whole series of Max Wolfe is really good and gripping and I have read the first four books within a week! However, in 'Die last', I was appalled with the way the author dealt with the story of Dasher, the guide dog. I am a totally blind guide dog owner and I had to work really hard before I was even put in the waaiting list for a guide dog as I had to prove that I was capable to find certain routes using my long cane. Once the trainers were satisfied I had to wait many months until a suitable dog was found for me. Then both Jerry (my guide dog) and I trained together before we were qualified. Parsons made a parody of the whole process which indicated no research on his behalf. This could endanger the donations on which the GDA relys in order to provide this excellent service. Apart from this huge mispresentation by the author, the whole series is excellent. I'm off to listen to the fifth book now!

Tony Parsons deals with another tough topic
This is wonderful story telling. London, its smells, noises and people emerge, gloriously, from the page.
The story itself surrounds the murky, brutal world of human trafficking, an enterprise that is ever expanding. Parsons humanises the victims, ranging from trafficked sex slaves to servitude.
They are a bit far fetched however - as is all crime fiction, nevertheless, I've enjoyed all of these as they race along and keep you engaged.
