In einem der ärmsten Viertel in New Orleans aufgewachsen, steigt der junge Louis Armstrong zu Weltruhm auf, wie es bis dato kein anderer Jazzmusiker vor ihm erlebt hatte. Er revolutionierte den Jazz, komponierte Musik für unzählige Stummfilme und etablierte sich selbst als Schauspieler und Sänger in zahlreichen Filmproduktionen. Auch noch heute, fast 50 Jahre nach seinem Tod, beeinflusst Armstrong die aktuelle Künstlerszene wie kein zweiter.
