Great Listen
A really good detective story, about a horrific series of incidents which all come together in the end via various twists and turns. It is read very well by Greg Patmore, though I feel that people who do not know Yorkshire and its people might find it a bit hard at times to understand. I loved the fact it was read by someone with a mild Yorkshire accent it added to the story. I grew up in Yorkshire and knew many of the places in the book. A great listen which I did not want to end. I have just bought some extra credits so that I can enjoy some more of the series. I would recommend buying the compendium of the 1st three books in this series.

Engrossing thriller.
I found the book slow at first, but when it came into its own I began to feel totally immersed. Caslin the DCI who is a troubled soul is allowed to emerge slowly and engage fully and is just supreme. When I eventually reached the end of the book I found my first urge was to listen to it again so I could ensure I had fully appreciated the depth of Caslin, and this engrossing twisting story.
If I had one criticism it was the narration I didn't warm to. Greg Patmore has such a hesitant delivery I found myself initially disliking the book and Caslin the central character, hence my wish to reread/listen. When I became more attuned to the narrator it became easier, but honestly think he was wrong for this book.

A dark thriller
This was a new author to me and the first book in a series. I really enjoyed the story and thought the plot was well worked out. The main character was interesting and believable though many of the secondary characters suffered from a lack of depth and were not fleshed out as much as they could be. I often found myself mistaking one for another, particularly mixing up Chloe & Claire.
The narrator gave a good performance and was a pleasure to listen to. I look forward to listening to the next book in the series and following Caslin's career.
I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.

Columbo is more like it.
A British police procedural set in Yorkshire and with a near self destructive policeman, Kaslim, as main protagonist, this is a gritty multi layered and numerous charactered mystery thriller The plot is complex and it is easy to get lost without concentrating on what happens - but it is worth it.
Narration is by Greg Penmore, and he performs with style the reading well paced and matched to the text throughout. A good performance.
This is the first of the J.M.Families books that I have read and it will certainly not be my last. Complex, gritty and with good characterisation, I can recommend it to all who enjoy the crime genre in general and British police procedural in particular. A good read

The narration of Greg Patmore was spot on. He brings this British Thriller to life.
So much , DI Nathaniel Caslin finds him self in a mess , with the substance abuse and the drinking .
He finds himself investigating the death of an ex-serviceman . The plot is set in the deep Yorkshire winter and has so many secrets . With his career on the nose dive, can he pull it together, to solve this murder.

Here is a book all dressed up, looking like the top of the line. My favorite genre: today's British
cop procedural. I like to think I'm keeping abreast of the latest cop
technology and this may be true here. Am I keeping up with modern trends in the criminal world? Or is this just 21st century white and black hats? I did listen to this twice, it is for sure a brain treat. a twists and turns - AND A CAR CHASE! I BELIEVE THIS IS MY FIRST AUDIO

Not my Favorite
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
I tried several times to listen to this book, but each time I couldn't get into the story. This just didn't have enough action, and the narration was somewhat slow, so I always found myself zoning out even when I tried to connect to the story. Although not for me, I am sure others would enjoy this book.

Could not get into it. To many fillers
I just could not get into this, I found my mind wondering to much, there is way to much filler with that it lost me. It does have a good plot, with good characters but with so much filler I just found it hard to follow, it just seemed to drag on.
The narrator I can’t give justice to, he seems to be moving to slow but that could be because of the fillers. I would like to give him another but not with this author. As far as I can tell there were no repeating of words, no volume changes, some of his characters voice were close to others, it was a little confusing.
I am sorry I am sure there are others who would enjoy this. If I had read it I would have skip a lot of the fillers and got right into the story which I think would have made it better.
