About this listen

George is a middle-management, middle-class, middle-aged guy who hates his job and struggles to stay connected to his wife and teenage children. Most guys might end up with a steamy affair and a flashy car for their midlife crises, but George gets a quirky philosophical physics professor named Shiloh. Trapped with this mysterious misfit on his morning commuter train, George is dragged into awkward conversations about love, fear, music, and the meaning of life. Shiloh also asks George to beta-test an app he wrote for the new Apple Watch - and with a free watch included, how could he say no?

When tragedy strikes, throwing George out of his uncomfortable comfort zone, he learns that Shiloh’s app lets him journey through alternate versions of his past. As challenges mount in his own reality, George must make a decision that will change him - and possibly the entire multiverse - forever.

Wow what a beautiful and thought provoking book

So if you were given the power to go back and relive days of a version of your life again would you? That’s the question being set in this book. A chance meeting on a crowded train floor George with an unusual fellow traveller gives him a chance to reassess his life, work, loves etc and open his eyes to the wonders of the world. It is beautifully narrated by Grant Pennington and will make you, laugh and cry.

Gripping

A bit confusing at first. But all becomes clear. Stick with it, and follow George in his termoil

Enjoyed it!

My review stars pretty much sum up my feelings about 'Do You Realize?' by Kevin A. Kuhn. I jumped at the chance to listen to it because I love a good time travelling tale. Overall it is a solid 4 stars for me.

The narrator Grant Pennington was excellent and his tone was perfect for this story. It felt like listening to an old friend every time I switched it on.

The actual story was a great idea and quite original. The use of Apple watches etc made it feel modern and up to date. The reason I gave the story 3 stars though was because, for me, there was way too much detail at the family level. I tend to steer away from dramas like these as I don't find them interesting. Other people will differ though so I'm at pains to point out that my response to those parts of the story is unique to me. But I had to switch the speed to 2.0 x to get through those parts!

I loved the time travelling though and books like this always start you thinking about what times in your own life you'd love to revisit and which ones you'd rather avoid!

Time to get off the river, George.

If you were able to pick ten days of your life from the past twenty five years to relive, which would you choose? This gift is handed to George, a middle aged man who is struggling with his life: his job is overreaching and going nowhere, his two teenage children seem sullen and unresponsive, and the joy had gone out of his marriage. He was counting the days to retirement. Then a young man on a commuter train starts up a conversation with him and George finds himself unexpectedly looking forward to their talks about love, life and music, sport, space, success, and the need to pay attention to what is right in front of us.

In Do You Realise?, author Kevin A.Kuhn has created a near perfect science fiction story of the traditional made modern kind, with a glimpse at man's discontent and a philosophical discussion on meanings and possible hope. A lifetime is lived and reviewed in these pages. Sounds a bit dull? Oh, believe me, it isn't. It is intriguing, emotional and leads the readers right into the heart of their own lives. It is also read perfectly by Grant Pennington, who, with a slightly gravelly voice, is everyman. He brings further emotion and wonderment to this story, already replete with both.

This is a book not to be missed. I have to confess that it was the simple but effective cover which first attracted me even before the synopsis: shallow, perhaps, but actually a perfect fit, it turns out, for the content: simplistic but very striking, old fashioned but right up to date. I requested a copy of Do You Realise? on the strength of it, via Audiobook Boom, and was freely and generously gifted a complimentary copy by the rights holder. Thank you so much. The book captivated me, had me absorbed in the arguments presented, and reflecting on my own life and choices. This is a book to smile with, and cry, and to think about long after it's finished. Highly recommended.

Not quite what I expected

This was more of a philosophical and ponder kind of time travel (multiverse) story. Not what I expected, I thought he would go off on adventures, save the world or a loved one within his timeline but no not really. It was a pleasant read with two likeable main characters but it was a bit subdued for me.

I didn't like this one.

It could have been much more, it has the bare bones of an interesting story. However, I found the main character really annoying. And there was little development within the plot. We spend more time hearing the two characters discussing American pro sports, than time travel. And then there's the unrealistic priorities of the main character. Perhaps even worse though is the narration. It was almost too bad to listen through.
