About this listen

A forgotten crown. A rising darkness. A choice that will shape the future.

Char, the illegitimate daughter of the Northern Prince, longs for peace in a world on the brink of war. But when the ancient and devious dragon Zaxx tasks her with retrieving a lost crown from her family’s palace, she cannot refuse—if she succeeds, he promises to allow something unprecedented: the dragon hoard to choose their riders.

Sensing an opportunity when her father summons her home, Char embarks on a dangerous mission. Her dragon, Paxala, however, has grander ambitions: to become the greatest of all dragons and defeat the ancient Zaxx. But to do so, she needs Char’s guidance.

With the help of her friend Neill, Char uncovers the dark magic hidden in the crown’s bloody past. But when her father demands she marry the leader of the Wildmen to secure an alliance, Char faces a harrowing decision: remain in the role she’s always known, or defy her fate and embrace the power within her.

Expanded and republished in November 2024, Dragon Dreams returns with even more magic, adventure, and intrigue.

Another dragon rider emerges and finds her destiny

This is the second book in the series and continues the story of Char and Neil who teamed up to care for the young dragon, Paxala in the first book. Please do yourself the pleasure of the worldbuilding and scene setting by reading the first book before this. Then, you will better appreciate the relationships, factions and character development witnessed in this one.
Char and Neil are the two main characters and the chapter announces to whose viewpoint the events relate. Our main characters go through moral, physical and emotional perils and face several dilemmas. Dreams are where the true nature of characters and situations are revealed to Char with the aid of her mind-link to the dragfon, Paxala. Her adherence to kindness and respect triumphs over the male bad guys who want to subdue and control. A satisying ending to this story whilst leaving the door open for further exploits of this pair and the young dragon.
Special mention for Tiffany Williams for an excellent performance involving male and female, human and dragon whilst making each voice consistent and distinctive. I particurlarly liked the whimsical tone of Paxala's voice.
