Summary

A young woman and her dragon must free their kingdom from evil magic.

King Onyx has kept Tenegard ensorcelled for too long. Dragon rider Cora, along with her dragon, Alaric, are determined to free the kingdom from his sinister grasp. With the aid of rebel forces, they’re training a new wave of dragon riders—the first the country has seen in a century—but will their forces be enough to combat King Onyx's dark magic? In his quest for power and immortality, there’s no line he won’t cross and nothing he won’t risk. With the nation on the brink of war, the stakes have never been higher.

The rebels must do whatever it takes to cut off the sorcerer king from his source of power before it's too late. If they fail to stop him, his corrupting reach will extend far beyond Tenegard.

And all hope will be lost....

Young heroine uses magic and dragon bond to battle

Young adult female heroine uses magic and dragon bonding to battle tyrant.

This audiobook is the third in the series and I have not encountered the former two, but can report it still works as a standalone story. Knowing the previous two may give you a better appreciation and this may give away some of the plot of the previous - so consuming in order is recommended. There is development of our heroine in her character, leadership and heterosexual crush on a previous antagonist. Some life lessons and attitude shifts are delivered without preaching. There is plenty of conflict with an autocratic tyrant and his minions battling the "rebels" for dominion over lands and people. We learn of magic limitations, different brands of magic and how they may be applied in different circimstances. Prejudices are overcome and we learn of the folly of pride and inflexibility and assumption of dominance without earning respect.
Use and abuse of dragons also features. The romance is clean, but also features a sub-plot with twists including an homosexual attraction.
Although the narrator distinguished between dragons, characters and narration, I could not always distinguish which dragon or character was speaking. Emotion, pace and tension was conveyed in the narration overall.
Because familiar tropes were used, I felt the ending was fairly predictable and its nature was apparent less than halfway through. A young, young-adult audience would be whom I guess this book is aimed.

loved how it turned out

this is the last book of the trilogy. I appreciate how the story goes on.We are humans and we make errors. But can we ask for forgiveness?
I like both, the story and the performance.

Fantastic conclusion with dragons and magic

This is a great conclusion to a fantastic and exciting series.

The narration is spot on and brings to life this exciting story. Well written and well told, this is an exciting and fast paced Dragon adventure. Told from both Cora and Octavia side as they try to stop the evil of Onyx and rescue Alaric’s mother from Onyx’s grasp.

Cora and Alec are a great dragon partnership and together lead the rebel army against Onyx, which involves Dragon training, fighting, battles and romance.

Great world building and characters. Exciting listen and fantastic story.
