Summary

Devon Marks loves books more than just about anything. They're his job and his passion, and they've brought him to an auction where he meets the hottest guy he's ever seen. When Brand Drake offers to let Devon come and value his extensive collection at an old mansion high in the Colorado mountains, he knows life as about as good as it gets.

Brand Drake knows he wants Devon the moment they meet, so he goes about adding Devon to his hoard the same way he would an amazing old book. But when Devon starts eating him out of house and home and showing signs that he has emerging dragon traits, he knows he hasn't just found a lover, he's found a mate.

When Devon starts to show signs of something even more amazing, Brand calls on his brothers Eagan and Tyson to help him figure out what to do, as well as how to tell Devon what's going on with his body, which is life-changing, and also dangerous. Someone always wants dragon magic to use, and Brand has to find a way to keep them safe, and to keep Devon with him, hopefully forever.

A Dragon's mate romance

*3.5*
Dragon Scholar is the first in this shifter romance series from Minerva Howe. I went in with high hopes that started out well as Devon and Brand connect over the sale of an old book, Devon purchasing on behalf of someone else and Brand looking to add to his vast hoard. However, it quickly devolves to just a lot of sex, Devon not really thinking for himself as he's caught up in his attraction to Brand. Once the story moves on to their bond, their future together and Brand's brothers appear, then a bit more comes into the story that you can grab on to. It's interesting how they discover history unknown to the Dragon brothers and there's a moment of danger for Devon that brings the truth out to the young man who knew nothing of the world of dragons.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and how all of the characters connected. It's easy to note how much light Devon brings to the brothers' lives so I'm looking forward to seeing how more mates affect them individually and as a family.
John Solo's narration matches well with the story and the characters and was enjoyable throughout. There was an excessive amount of growling though,...

Loved it!

I am a huge fan of all the amazing dragons featured in the Universe written by Minerva Howe. Devon and Brand have a lot of chemistry together and it was a delight witnessing how they got together, with Brand's protectiveness and Devon's self-discovery. Now, this lovely story is read by one of the best voice actors in the genre and one of my favorites so this audiobook was a must. It was a wonderful treat hearing Mr Solo's narration and how brought every amazing character to life with his great acting skills and beautiful silky voice. Simply loved it!

I enjoyed this a lot.

Dragon Scholar is the first book I’ve read by Minerva Howe and I enjoyed it a lot. I’ve not read many dragon books and it was interesting how each author does them a little bit differently. John Solo is the main reason I wanted to listen to this as I love his audiobook performances. I love all of the different voices he used in this story, especially his growly one. 😊

If the remaining books come to audio I’d like to continue listening to this series.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Sweet Dragon Love

Dragon Scholar is the first book in the Dragon Hoard series, an omegaverse shifter romance series with hidden dragons and mpreg. This was such a fun and fluffy book with some sweet instalove and interesting worldbuilding that has a touch of mystery. Devon and Brand's attraction towards each other is intense, but once they become mates, it is even sweeter and hotter than ever. I love how perfectly they fit each other, and the protectiveness Brand has over Devon is cute.

John Solo narrates this audiobook and does a fantastic job. I love his growly dragon voice which really brought the audio performance to life. The audiobook production was well done and it made for an enjoyable listen.

Cute Story

Overall a very cute story. Minerva Howe writes cute books with fun characters, although they aren't the most plot heavy books. They are pretty steamy, and a lot of the plot is lost to that. Having said that, I really liked both MCs and I liked that we got to catch up with previous characters from earlier in the series. John Solo did a lovely job!

An Enjoyable & Fascinating PNR! Fabulous Listen🎧

This is an enjoyable and steamy fantasy paranormal romance with original and imaginative storylines that captivated my attention from start to end. Minerva Howe is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style, she created a fascinating story with equally fascinating characters who are likable and easy to connect with. Devon Marks, a book lover, through and through, and made a career out of his passion. Brand Drake also has a love for books, rare books, and it was that love that brought Devon and Brand together. They met at a book auction and Brand knew Devon was the one for him the moment they met and he arranged for him to come to his mansion to catalog and evaluate his book collection. The chemistry between these two was electric, and it did not take long for them to act on it and what comes out of their union was even more than what Brand could have dreamed of. Brand, a Dragon Shifter, calls on his brothers to find out more information about their kind, he also needs to explain to Devon what he is and who they are to each other. There is never a dull moment in this fabulously plotted and super hot shifter romance, there is plenty of drama, low angst, great dialogue with some wit that puts a smile on your face, some twists and turns and heartfelt and emotional moments. Minerva Howe, thank you for this wonderful story.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, John Solo does an exceptional job bringing the characters and their story to life, he gives each character their own voice and personality, which makes it easy to follow along and tell who is who. He has a complete understanding of the characters he portrays, sounds believable in every role and just as I picture them to sound. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the characters’ emotions, as well as their passion, and projects it all into his performance. John Solo is a versatile voice artist and an entertaining storyteller. Thank you for another outstanding listen.

Impressive storyline

This sort of made me sad to read. It was such a alpha hole and innocent/shy nerd situation. Lots of grunting and teeth grinding, very over the top sex scenes. Not really my thing, unfortunately. I did like the basis of the story being about a dragon family who thought they were alone, yet found an adopted dragon.

Wow, I loved it.

Wow, I loved it

I was given book 2, but it recommended reading/listening to book 1 first, so I bought it, and boy, was I glad I did. I loved everything about this book.

Great world-building, and the characters all had depth. Devon, who co-owns a book shop, is a geeky book nerd, and Brand Drake is a book collector and a dragon. Obviously, the dragon part of him is disguised, and he hides out in his giant mansion.

Seriously a lovely paranormal romance with great side characters and main ones.

John Solo did an excellent job of narrating this book and kept me entranced from start to finish. I can't wait to start book 2.
