Summary

The beautiful planet Pern seemed a paradise to its new colonists—a return to an agrarian way of life—until unimaginable terror turned it into hell. Lethal spores began to fall like silvery thread-like rain from the sky, vaporizing everything—and everyone—in their path. The colony, cut off from Earth and lacking the resources to combat the menace, was doomed.

The colonists noticed that small, dragon-like lizards in their new world were joining the fight against Thread, breathing fire on it and teleporting to safety. If only the dragonets were big enough for a human to ride and intelligent enough to work as a team with a rider. With time running out and the colony's destruction imminent, they set their most talented geneticist to work to create the creatures Pern so desperately needed—dragons!

Abridged version of this great tale

I hate hidden abridged versions. And this wasn't made clear

I have most odd Anne McCaffreys books and I hate/loathe hidden abridged versions of books.

This verses misses a lot of info that I felt affected my enjoyment of this story. So lost stars for this and including follow along with my book either..

Voice actor not my favourite and did her best considering the version she was given to narrate.

Kitty Ping and the rest of Admiral Benson and former Governor Emily Books passengers on board the three EFF colonists arrive at the Planet Pern. This book covers the first 9 years from first orbit of Perm and the trials inhabitants faced.

Update. I really tired to like this. But had to return it as didn't enjoy this versions all!

Not the full book

Not the full book waste of time don’t bother. The dragon books are great. Why isn’t it full length.

Great start to the series.

I enjoyed every minute of this episode and I am ready for the next one, although this is not the first time I will still follow through the whole series again. Great author.

Very short version, bad performance

these are great books but don't listen to this audio, they miss huge sections of the book out (all the interesting descriptive bits!) and the voice is so monotonous and droning (especially for a British ear)
