Summary

The beautiful planet Pern seemed a paradise to its new colonists—a return to an agrarian way of life—until unimaginable terror turned it into hell. Lethal spores began to fall like silvery thread-like rain from the sky, vaporizing everything—and everyone—in their path. The colony, cut off from Earth and lacking the resources to combat the menace, was doomed.

The colonists noticed that small, dragon-like lizards in their new world were joining the fight against Thread, breathing fire on it and teleporting to safety. If only the dragonets were big enough for a human to ride and intelligent enough to work as a team with a rider. With time running out and the colony's destruction imminent, they set their most talented geneticist to work to create the creatures Pern so desperately needed—dragons!

This is a very abbreviated version of this book.

Good story and well read, but very short for a book of over 400 pages. I was disappointed by this as the Dragons of Pern is one of my favourite series.

disjointed and difficult to follow

I wish I had believed the other reviews. this abridged version of a much loved tale is so reduced in content no characters develop into individuals, its a bare summary of the story line with very disjointed snippets of the original work.

I wouldn't bother.

Abridged version of this great tale

I hate hidden abridged versions. And this wasn't made clear

I have most odd Anne McCaffreys books and I hate/loathe hidden abridged versions of books.

This verses misses a lot of info that I felt affected my enjoyment of this story. So lost stars for this and including follow along with my book either..

Voice actor not my favourite and did her best considering the version she was given to narrate.

Kitty Ping and the rest of Admiral Benson and former Governor Emily Books passengers on board the three EFF colonists arrive at the Planet Pern. This book covers the first 9 years from first orbit of Perm and the trials inhabitants faced.

Update. I really tired to like this. But had to return it as didn't enjoy this versions all!

Sadly awful narration.

I love the Pern Books. I know the author is American. But the narrator has a really grating American accent. She ploughs through the book at break neck speed and there is very little to distinguish between sentimental moments and high drama. Sophie Aldred read the first two books she would have been much better. In fact she would have been Ace.

Very Dissapointing

Sadly a very poor effort. Strange pauses in sentences, gaps in the story and a very harsh voice narrating what was once a lovely tale of Pern. As a rework, it failed. I shall return this version and hope one day it will be recorded properly.

Dragonsdawn

Disappointing.I have loved the stories but this interpretation is so disappointing. Don’t like accent and acting seems insipid.

Abridged, badly.

Abridged by removing random passages, some of which were important. this was not advertised in the blurb. American narrator cannot pronounce European place names.
