About this listen
HE PLANNED TO OBLITERATE AN ENTIRE CITY. HE THOUGHT NO ONE COULD STAND IN HIS WAY. BUT HE HADN'T HEARD OF RIYRIA.
When a master-craftsmen dwarf is fired, he threatens retaliation. The rogues-for-hire known as Riyria are commissioned to find and stop him. Traveling to the paradise resort of Tur Del Fur, the two are granted a lavish allowance that, along with the easy job, promises to turn the trip into a vacation.
Everything would have been perfect except that the disgruntled employee’s last name is Berling and the target of his wrath is the legendary towers of Drumindor.
It's been more than five years since the last adventure with Royce Melborn (a cynical ex-assassin) and Hadrian Blackwater (an idealistic ex-mercenary), a pair whose bonds of friendship are bound with blood. This is the 20th novel based in the world of Elan and the fifth in the Riyria Chronicle series.

Lived up to my very high expectations
Such a fun story with so many links to previous novels. I love to be immersed in Elan especially in the company of Riyria. MJS continues to impress and Tim is a wonderful narrator.
Now the long, long wait for The Cycle to arrive.

Great light hearted adventure
Loved being back with Hadrian & Royce again.
Made me laugh out loud and smile many times.
Great to get to know some of the other characters better too. Superbly read by Tim Gerard Reynolds as always. Love anything by this author.

Good series, but this one falls a bit short
I really love this series, I have listened to all the books so far released and have to say the Ryiera revelations and other related series are my favourite to ever read. It was really nice to have a new installment of Royce and Hadrian with the true telling of the much hinted story of drumindor. I much preferred the last quater of the book though as the first 3/4 seemed to be dragged out too much and all the story happened at the end. Im also not sure I like the chapters with Royce and Gwen dancing around each other, it seemed quite out of character for both of them and left me feeling like i had just read a cringey teen romance. Overall I thought it was worth the read as I love the world of Elan so much but I do think this book falls short from the others.

Character led dream
I can't get enough of these two main pragmatists, they are so enjoyable and exciting, I find myself immersed into each book.

Perfectly fitting
A perfectly fitting conclusion, tying the threads of the different eras, without ruining the magic! How does he do it?!

long winded fanservice
Overall, should have been trimmed to 4 hours as a short story, and plenty of times found myself skipping
exposition which had no relevance to the story.
Also suffered from prequel continuity errors where far too much is revealed about characters which is barely touched on in the main series.
While it was nice to get another story about the pair, it just seemed a clumsy way to introduce a different story arc for his next series.
if you're new to the series, do not read this in order, read it as the last book.

Took me a while get used to new style voices
Agreed lots of back story holes in the past lightly pampered. Brought back many mid stories from other books. Didn’t like at the end being told it reminded us of the connection to classic past films as felt cheated. Loved all the dwarves they remind us of grumpy old people which we all heading to. So took me a while get comfortable with Tim’s new style voices and did mess with speed but were way off mark for me. Yes understood there dialogue for each character which forced my mind to trust it was them. Look I’m not a critic I’m just a mechanical engineer but this book set have been my go to for escapism. Wasn’t sure if anymore will happen with the first part I drift off and don’t concentrate anyway was a good book and will listen few more times
