Summary

Diana Gabaldon's fans will be delighted to find Jamie and Claire as spirited and endearing as ever in this fourth installment of this magnificent saga. Romance, history, and time travel blend once again as the couple builds a new life together in the wilderness of pre-Revolutionary America.

Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

Davina Porter's narrative talent adds a special vibrance and resonance to Gabaldon's complex, colorful characters. If you've experienced Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, or Voyager, you already know the length of the book is deceptive. None of them is nearly long enough.

Best book ever

I have read all the books of Diana Gabaldon but find Drums of Autumn the best! Great narrating by Davina Porter. Must read for all who love adventures, history and a great lovestory with some scifi.

Another engrossing part of this great series!

After a relatively slow start this book really takes off. Knitting together the previous character strands very nicely.. if sometimes a little over conveniently. That said I'm now well and truly bound to all the main characters and am dying to see how their stories further develop.

love this series

Would you listen to Drums of Autumn again? Why?

I think you only need to listen to this story once. It's part of the series.

What did you like best about this story?

The whole story is great and gives a good indication of what it was like in the Caribbean in the 1700s.

Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This one is great. My only criticism is that she makes Roger sound like Jamie, when he suddenly arrives in the West Indies. His voice was changed from what it was before.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I just loved the whole story and was very pleased that Bri got to find her Dad.
