About this listen

Shortlisted for the Audio Publishers' Association Audie Award 2016 for Best Original Work.

International number-one best-selling author Stephen King presents a brand-new, never-before-published, audio-only story.

In this new tour de force from Stephen King - unavailable in print or any other format until November 2015 - a salt-of-the-earth Maine native recounts how a friendly annual summer fireworks show rivalry with his neighbour across the lake gradually spirals out of control...with explosive results.

Drunken Fireworks is released exclusively as an audiobook before it is published as one of the short stories in King's collection The Bazaar of Bad Dreams in November 2015.

Narration made this far better than it should have been

Stephen King never disappoints no matter what he writes and this is no exception. Not his best work but was full of his wit and wonder than is present in all of his work.

The real gem in this story was the narration! It was fantastic and what kept me enthralled.

Strange accent but stick with it, it's worth it.

What made the experience of listening to Drunken Fireworks the most enjoyable?
There were some comic moments, especially the dialogue and relationship between mother and son. The story unravels slowly but every word is worth listening to.

What other book might you compare Drunken Fireworks to, and why?
Older Stephen King novels.

What does Tim Sample bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The accent is pure hick from the sticks, but well worth sticking with, and provides some of the better comic moments.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Neighbours from hell meet 4th July.

Any additional comments?
As stated, this story is worth sticking with.

Drunken Ramblings.

What disappointed you about Drunken Fireworks?

It's not in the slightest bit scary or even vaguely interesting

What will your next listen be?

Dune by Frank Herbert

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator's voice is annoying in this. He speaks as you would imagine a lot of Stephen King characters would speak though - "Gawly Gosh Jim Bob, ain't dat da troof mistah?" Sort of like that. It's painful.

What character would you cut from Drunken Fireworks?

All of them.

Any additional comments?

Not worth the money
