Summary

Welcome to a new series by nationally best-selling author Elizabeth Johns. Enjoy the extraordinary tale of four Knight brothers, and one little sister in the Gentlemen of Knights.

Can a sharp-tongued governess become indispensable to a duke?

Rowley Knight, Duke of Knighton, is too busy being a duke to bother with such nonsense as love. With three heirs, he is in no hurry whatsoever to succumb to the lures of the leg-shackles. He is content managing his siblings and estates, and avoiding society whenever possible. If he can only find someone to manage his young sister, life can go back to its proper order.

Emma Lancaster's father gambled away her family's fortune leaving her hopes for a respectable marriage shattered. Destitute and near desperate, she accepts a position as a governess to a young lady at the recommendation of her godmother. Little does she know that her charge is the brother of the man she despises. Can she humble herself to become his employee? Or will her temper get the best of her - and him?

A very enjoyable love story

This was a delightful listen. The author created lovable characters and a engaging plot set in a fascinating period of history. The narrator is one of my favorites, and as always he brought the story and the characters to life with his pleasant and expressive voice. He had a great range of voices for the different characters, and he conveyed their emotions and personalities very well. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves this genre. I can’t wait to listen to the next installment. Thank you for making this book free… it convinced me to purchase the rest of the series :)

Very good story and very well narrated

Very good story, it follows the traditional pattern for this gender, but has a fair amount of tension and crescendo to the end.
Alex Wyndham reads is one of my favourite narrators and does not disappoint.

.... meh

It isn’t difficult to listen to thanks to Alex Wyndham’s narration—his voice and style makes almost anything a treat—but a very lacking love story made this book hard to invest in. When the ending comes I wasn’t quite sure how we’d gotten to a HEA... there was more spark between Edmund and Emma than her and the Duke. All the pieces were there for something quite good, but the execution fell rather short. Might return for later books in the series if AW continues to narrate, otherwise it’s a pass for me.

Good Story, Great Narrator

I discovered this series because I’ve now made it my duty to follow Alex Wyndham around. He seems to mostly narrate for historical fiction, and most of them are quite superior titles, thus far!

This is a good rendering. It’s set in Devon, so there’s no haute ton interaction: No Almack’s, no White’s, no Fencing Clubs, no Ton Parties or Balls etc. Notwithstanding that, there’s a good plot and personable characters. It may well be that all of the novels will be away from the upper one thousand as, only one of brothers is in London - if there is a story around the young sister, that may be a ‘typical’ historical romance.

This makes a pleasant change from that...

It was alriiiiiiiigght

A bit meh!
I enjoyed the first half. I liked the relationship between a Emma and the sister and the godmother, I thought they were really touching and evoked the odd tear from me. I liked Emma as a character.
I didn’t feel the chemistry between her and the duke. They spent 90% of the book disliking the fact that they fancied each other, then in what seemed like one page they skipped to loving each other. There was no slow burn or built for me. They were stuck on the level of attempting to rid themselves of their niggling feelings then stepped right up to marriage which led to the ending falling a bit flat.
The hurdle of her family disliking the match was never satisfactorily jumped and just left me feeling sad.
No spice in the end either, which isn’t a necessity, but I’d have liked to feel more passion and togetherness from them, it may have helped.
Narration is a beaut as always xxx

Lovely romantic tale

I am always uncertain of this narrator as it takes me a while to get used to his breathy style. Loved the audio once into the narration style.
