Summary
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Dust of Dreams: The Malazan Book of the Fallen 9 by Steven Erikson, read by Michael Page.
On the Letherii continent the exiled Malazan army commanded by Adjunct Tavore begins its march into the eastern Wastelands, to fight for an unknown cause against an enemy it has never seen.
The fate awaiting the Bonehunters is one no soldier can prepare for and one no mortal soul can withstand - the foe is uncertainty, and the only weapon worth wielding is stubborn courage. In war everyone loses, and this brutal truth can be found in the eyes of every soldier in every world.
Destinies are never simple. Truths are neither clear nor sharp. The Tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen are drawing to a close in a distant place, beneath indifferent skies, as the last great army of the Malazan Empire seeks a final battle in the name of redemption. Final questions remain to be answered: can one's deeds be heroic when no one is there to see it? Can that which is unwitnessed forever change the world? The answers await the Bonehunters beyond the Wastelands....

Complete and utter nonsense
Nothing makes sense. It's like the author couldn't decide if he wanted to write poetry, philosophy or fantasy, so he combined them all into some strange, abstract abomination. It's like he just improvised the whole thing and wrote whatever came to mind to further the incomprehensible story. There are no rules, no consistency and no context for anything that happens. There was a good story in there somewhere, but he decided to pad a 5 book series out to 10 books by just adding more and more nonsense. Deus ex machinas at every turn, characters appearing where they shouldn't be, so many unfinished story arcs and so many characters you'll confuse for other characters that your head will spin.

Great story. As always a slow burn start by the end the scope was of a world on fire.

how did it get so bad?
This one was awful. Surely at book 9 you can stop introducing random pointless characters/story arcs and spend time time on ones that readers care about. Endless and uninteresting, uninsightful character musings/internal monologue. The whole thing was a grind with very few redeeming moments. I hope the next one is better because this one has left a bitter taste.

like a bucket of cold water
a very odd listen. many parts of the story feels like it have only been writen so the author could say how awfull humans are. had to stop many times just just to check previous stories for plot holes or story bits that just diddn't made sense. e.g. the barghast gods hate of tool's different ways when they themself should be imass. other parts have death so stupid you cant even make sense of why that happened other than the aurtor needed that one dead just because... all in all still going for book 10 but no longer sure ill be listening to the other stories in the malazan univers

disappointed
this story was disappointing, is was just a rambled mess, unlike the rest of the saga. I almost gave up on finishing it and am only going to listen to book 10, to hopefully get back on track. if not I won't be getting to the end.
