About this listen

Ecce Homo, subtitled How One Becomes What One Is, is the final original book written by Friedrich Nietzsche before he succumbed to the insanity which lasted until his death in 1900. In this extraordinary autobiography, Nietzsche chronicles his life and development as a philosopher, his tastes as an individual, and his vision for humanity. He examines the figures he has identified with or struggled against, like Christ, Schopenhauer, Socrates, and Wagner, and reviews and comments on his books, including The Birth of Tragedy, The Untimely Meditations, The Dawn, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, and Beyond Good and Evil.

A work of self-celebration and self-mocking, Ecce Homo is the last word and testament on Nietzsche's main beliefs.

Terrible performance, couldn't finish

The voice artist mispronounced words, didn't seem to follow the meaning of the text and so would intone incorrect emotions, At times deliver lines dryly and tentatively as if he was reading them for the first time and at other times he was almost hilariously theatrical and sophomorically histrionic with his dramatization of the text. I couldn't finish because the performance was that distracting.

DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION

The narrator manages to pronounce Nietzsche, Wagner and Goethe wrong, which is impressive on one level and extremely annoying on another. There’s other things wrong with the pronunciations on places, but honestly if you’re going to sell an audiobook at least pronounce the authors name correctly. Amazon should pull this version from audible as it’s comically poor. There are better versions of Ecce Homo on Audible so don’t get this one.
