Summary

Set in a world inspired by the ancient Egyptian myths of the Ogdoad and the Ennead, "Ennead" follows the journey of a young man named Ennead who hails from a secluded mountain society. His encounter with a unicorn sets in motion a chain of events that will challenge his perception of self and his role in the world. Forced to leave behind his home and family, Ennead embarks on a perilous adventure through the seven lower kingdoms, realms his society has long looked down upon both figuratively and literally.

Fantastic worldbuilding and interesting story

I loved the way this author makes her fantasyworld come alive with those tiny little details that matter the most. I was able to completely envision it, and while listening I got the feeling that I understood the intricacies of the world of Ennead. I found myself thinking about the book a lot after listening to it, and had trouble putting it on pause to do real-world stuff because the plot was so interesting. The narrator also did a great job; I was able to listen to this book while driving in a very loud truck, and not once did I have to rewind or get a jumpscare because of sudden volume changes (which happens a lot with other narrators). I was a bit worried at first because some names sound very similar, but the narrator's clear enunciation made it very easy to follow.
