About this listen

Sometimes salvation comes from the most unlikely hero.

When Tate Gillespie is marked for death for a crime he didn’t commit, his life crumbles. In a world where "justice" is meted out by a relentless military force, he’s going to need more than a mythical guardian angel. His life down to seconds, he’s saved by the mysterious X, a knife-wielding man he's never even met before. But who is X? Is he the man who threatens and kills without a second thought? Or the strangely gentle man who only seems to act that way around Tate?

X is a shadow. A wraith. A man who flits through the city virtually unseen. He’s got no time for people when knives are far more reliable. X does have one weakness though - the man he's been keeping safe for years who doesn't even know it. He'd burn the whole world to keep him alive. But what he won't do is stake his claim. Tate’s not his and he needs to remember that, no matter how close they might become.

With the military in hot pursuit, they’re going to need to rely on X’s skills to keep them both alive. Tate’s feelings are growing with every hour they spend together, but X is a tough nut to crack. Can two people from very different backgrounds really find common ground? Or will one of the many perils they face throughout their long journey drive them apart?

It’s all about survival. Not love. Isn’t it?

Exposed is an action/adventure story featuring two men who couldn’t be more opposite.

Edgy and unpredictable sci-fi romance with some great action scenes!

It’s 2076, Earth has survived climate change and the Third World War, but is vastly changed. Tate has survived living in a police state, until now. He’s saved from vaporisation by a shadowy man called X and must run for his life. The world-building was brief and to-the-point, painting a two-speed world: Tate leaves the relative normalcy of his friends and job for the post-apocalyptic underbelly inhabited by X. This sci-fi action / romance was, at times, edgy and unpredictable with some great action scenes and a ‘forced proximity via travel’ trope. X is a Reacher-like figure, deadly, monosyllabic, someone who acts on training and instinct, with a lifelong obsession with Tate. Tate is the complete opposite: a well-intentioned talker with a bleeding heart who has lived a cushy life. I liked the odd-couple nature of their relationship and how they unexpectedly complemented each other. Audio narrator, Anderson Richards, provides great pacing and emotion, perfectly voicing Tate as cultured while giving X and the underbelly characters working class accents.

Original story line - interesting thought

Enjoyed the story development, not something I was expecting. The relationship between the two leads was very interesting and fun to be part of.

Great dystopian story

Story: The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about this book is the great world building. We meet the MCs in a dystopian world full of interesting ideas on society and the world as a whole. The MCs themselves were really interesting, total opposites and I liked how the author made it all work. The story is intense, but a pleasure.
Narration: Great voice and really good performance that carried forward all the emotions palpable in the narrative.

Brilliant story paired with excellent narration!

I read and reviewed the book last year - here's my (inadequate) review: Hats off to HL Day for making this a humorous, dystopian, suspenseful story that kept me riveted to the end. Especially since I generally avoid dystopian stories (they tend to be depressing...)
Tate and X are 2 of the best characters I've read about. Despite the dangers they endured, it's really not an angsty story at all.
Highly recommend 👌
Now I have to say hats off to Anderson Richards! He did a fantastic job with bringing H.L Day's prose to life. He voiced X and Tate perfectly, his voices for the secondary characters were well chosen and he flowed seamlessly between all he voices. In a word, he is a perfect choice for this book! I will be looking for more narrations by Mr. Richards.

Action Packed

Great story. Loved X and Tate. This story was quick moving. Tate was the best, his sections were full of humor and positivity. X was grumpy and loyal. This story was actually different than I expected. The story is X protecting Tate after he is falsely accused of a crime. This is a frantic tale of X and Tate trying to find a safe place. I loved it. It was quick passed and they are a great team. Tate isn't as weak as he seemed, and grows throughout their adventure. X grows as a person. There were times I didn't know how they would make it or where they would go, but it all flowed wonderfully and I highly recommend it.

Excellent post-apocalyptic story!

This was such an incredible book! I was incredibly impressed with the fast pace and the level of action in this dystopian, post-apocalyptic scenario. The characters are incredibly engaging, too. The real definition of opposite attract. X is a broody, violent man, always at the ready with a threat and a knife. Except when it comes to Tate, that’s when he becomes, if not emotional, extremely protective and gentle. Tate is the excavator opposite: he’s sunny and chatty and also quite naive.
The book is steamy and exciting, and the narrator, Anderson Richards, portrays masterfully both MCs and their range of emotions!
Definitely a 5-stars-read and I would give a couple of stars more to the audio version, if given the chance!

Great book

This is the first dystopian book I've read and I loved it. The story was interesting and the narration was great. The narrator was very versatile with the voices of the characters. He brought each character to life, especially the two main characters. Definitely 5 stars all around.

A fun, well paced ride!

In a post apocalyptic world Tate thinks his life is going great, X knows his is shit. When Tate’s world turns upside down X steps out of the shadows to save his life.
At first the story was a little mysterious whenever we heard from X, but slowly we find out his secrets and I think if it was done any other way we might not have fallen in live with him.
Tate is naive but sweet. And about to have some life lessons thrown in his face. We watch his eyes be opened and see him grow up though the story.
As the men try to travel to freedom they encounter many different obstacles and the story moves at a good pace, keeping the action and romance running along.
The narrator was good and it was always easy to tell who was saying what and whose thoughts we were hearing.
I struggled to put it down, and stayed up late too many times listening. The book is a really captivating listen and I recommend it to anyone wanting a great story before their HEA.

This MM romantic thriller is exciting and HOT...

This survival romance with dystopian elements was exciting and HOT from start to finish. In a world where death squads execute citizens without benefit of trial, the writing is on the wall for poor Tate when he’s framed up for a white collar crime he didn’t commit. Saved in the nick of time from certain death by a mysterious guardian angel called X, the pair must flee and attempt to stay one step ahead of the death squads. Tate and X couldn’t be more opposites – I loved the pairing here with Tate’s fragile sweetness and general ineptitude (at the beginning) contrasting strongly with X’s muscular physique, quiet assurance and ninja-like skills. The emotional journey here for both characters is rewarding, and I remained engaged and invested all the way through. The narration by Anderson Richards was top notch.
