Summary
The second novel from the Costa Prize shortlisted author of Big Girl, Small Town.
It is the summer of 1994. In a small town on the Irish border, Maeve and her two friends have just secured summer jobs in the local shirt factory. They plan to make as much money as they can while waiting for their A Level results before getting out of town and away to the UK.
As the summer progresses and the marching season begins, tensions in the factory start to rise between the Catholic and Protestant workforce and events escalate putting Maeve's chance of escape in jeopardy.

This needs more stars!
This book was truly joyous. It was brilliant to have such a well narrated book, set in my own country, with girls of a similar age to me (back then, and I’d love to know where they are now that we’re in our 40s!), using familiar language, but living in the depths of the division that thankfully, as a ‘culchie’, I managed to skirt around. It was funny and moving, evocative yet bonkers, and left me wanting more and more. It beautifully addresses how friendships at that stage in life are so tenuous but also all encompassing, as you move into adulthood. And reminds you that (as with this book), you don’t always appreciate what you have until it’s gone.

Great story
Great story, excellent narration which really made the book more enjoyable. It was eye opening to learn what it was like in Northern Ireland during the troubles and how people coped with humour and the importance of friendships. I thoroughly recommend this listen

Amazing book
I loved this book and didn’t want it to end!
The characters were so believable and 3 dimensional, the story was touching but full of hope despite the sometimes rather dark setting.

Very funny, with dark vein running through the story
This was a great listen the narrator was excellent, she made the book,the story line was very informative about the situation in Northern Ireland at the time,the 1990s, I enjoyed every minute of it.

Revealing
Loved it and it gave a very good insight into how The Troubles (War) effected people's lives and their thinking. Great humour also.

Outstanding
This book is funny (if you liked Derry girls you’ll

Gritty and eloquent!!
To start with, I didn’t like the vulgarity but then found it so eloquently delivered! A well crafted book that draws you in and engages you so well!!
