Summary

The second novel from the Costa Prize shortlisted author of Big Girl, Small Town.

It is the summer of 1994. In a small town on the Irish border, Maeve and her two friends have just secured summer jobs in the local shirt factory. They plan to make as much money as they can while waiting for their A Level results before getting out of town and away to the UK.

As the summer progresses and the marching season begins, tensions in the factory start to rise between the Catholic and Protestant workforce and events escalate putting Maeve's chance of escape in jeopardy.

Superb

Laugh out loud in places and yet bittersweet at the same time. This is a sensitively written book about real people in a real time.

Brilliant

A great book and an equally marvellous narrator. A grown up Derry Girls with edge. If you liked 'Big Girl, Small Town', you're going to adore this. Gallen shows every sign of becoming one of our most important authors.

Just brilliant

Loved this beautifully narrated story. Insightful and sad on the one hand and laugh out loud on the other. Brought back memories of growing up in Northern Ireland.

I loved it hey!

Probably one of my quickest reads/listens. It was funny, sad, informative and genuinely took me right back to my time living in Norn Iron. The Narrator was nothing short of Brilliant. I do hope there is a Part 2. I miss Maeve, Caroline and Aoife already.

Excellent

Great story and narrator. True to the point. Would recommend as it relates very well to events of those troubled times.

Amazing book

I loved this book and didn’t want it to end!
The characters were so believable and 3 dimensional, the story was touching but full of hope despite the sometimes rather dark setting.

Fabulous

Absolutely loved this. Funny, harsh, heartbreaking and brutally frank. Couldn’t get enough of it and having loved Derry Girls on tv this filled the void that finishing the programme had left me with. The narration was superb and really brought the characters and times to life. Highly recommended.
