About this listen
The first time I met Jax Blackwood things went a little sideways. I didn't know he was Jax Blackwood - who expects a legendary rock star to be shopping for groceries? More importantly, a blizzard was coming, and he was about to grab the last carton of mint-chocolate chip.
Still, I might have walked away, but then he smugly dared me to try and take the coveted ice cream. So I kissed him. And distracted that mint-chip right out of his hands. Okay, it was a dirty move, but desperate times and all that. Besides, I never expected he'd be my new neighbor.
An annoying neighbor who takes great pleasure in reminding me that I owe him ice cream but would happily accept more kisses as payment. An irresistible neighbor who keeps me up while playing guitar naked - spectacularly naked - in his living room.
Nothing about Jax is easy to ignore - not the way he makes me laugh, or that his particular brand of darkness matches mine, or how one look from him melts me faster than butter under a hot sun.
Neither of us believes in love or forever. Yet we're quickly becoming each other's addiction. But we could be more. We could be everything.
All we have to do is trust enough to fall.
Contains mature themes.

Fab story, but struggled with narration!
The story was fabulous, heart wrenching, yet heartwarming with a nice amount of passion and spice! The characters were easy to fall in love with, particularly Jon (Jaxs) who’s battles with mental health were approached with respect and compassion. My issues was, as a previous listener mentioned, with the narration. Both narrators were good, I’m a huge fan of Maxine in audiobooks, but I really didn’t feel Nelson’s accent suited Jax’s character at all. I feel he would have been more suited to Scott’s character in ‘managed.’ That being said the story had me hooked and the ending as always made me swoon- oh too be adored like that!

Distracting narration lets the story down.
I love this story, I own all available titles in Kristen Callihan’s VIP series.
The thing that I struggle with is the continuity between the audiobooks. For the first two books, Idol and Managed, Jax/John has an American accent. In his own book, Jax/John is voiced by Nelson Hobbs delivering a really, really dodgy English accent. It is distracting and diminishes the story. Brenna’s accent also skips across the Atlantic throughout the audio telling of these stories. This jarring carelessness could and should have been avoided, all the characters were set up in Idol, and it appears that those producing subsequent audiobooks had not bothered to refer to it. Disappointing.
