Summary

The British government is being blackmailed by criminals who got their hands on a quantity of plutonium left over from the Cold War. There is only one man who knows their identity and can prevent a disaster, but he is on the run for a murder he didn’t commit and has no intention of being found.

As the authorities attempt to track him down, the clock is ticking, and they are running out of time. They pin their hopes on the fact that a bunch of amateurs won’t have nuclear technology and the worst they will manage is a dirty bomb. After all, everyone knows they aren’t really that dangerous.

People run away from the explosion, and the radiation drifts harmlessly into the atmosphere. But suppose you could change that? What if the terrorists had found a way to keep the radiation near to the ground, encourage people to hang around breathing in death, and when you invite them to their own slaughter, they come willingly? They would be dangerous then...wouldn’t they?

Brilliant 5 star audio book

This is the first book in a new series to me, which I love as it means no annoying back story and having to catch up with what happened previously.

This is a very fast moving book, which never let up from the start to the end.

The book is a great thriller, with lots of intrigue and questions asked, all of which are answered by the end of the book.

THe narrator read the book brilliantly and kept me engaged throughout

As addictive as a book can get!

I truly couldn't stop listening to the audio-book and have started book 2 already. I adore Karla Forbes' writing and have popped her onto my 'favourite authors' list. Craig Bowles did a brilliant job with the narration, which kept me listening for hours on end.

loved this book so much .... never stops moving

This book is great. it moved with lots of pace and fury and the story was good and believable. this won't be the last book from this author. Really enjoyable story line. I must admit that the first few chapters I struggled with the narration - cant really explain it but I carried on with it and am so glad that I did as the book was brilliant and I cant wait for book #2

Fast paced adventure with engaging characters.

This was not the normal genre I would chose but on the recommendation of a friend, I read and thoroughly enjoyed this book.
In my opinion, even though the story was well structured and very engaging, it was the characters that really held me. I thoroughly enjoyed the development of Nick as a ordinary man in extraordinary circumstances. I also enjoys the sub-story of the two school boys. Their behaviour was the perfect combination of trepidation and school boy naughtiness and pranks. As a parent of a boy that age myself, I felt it was a very realistic depiction.
I found the narration of the book added to my enjoyment in particular the animation of the speaker and the range of characters he managed to convey. As an avid listener of audiobooks I find a bad narrator can really ruin a book for me but this was perfect. Mr Bowles enunciated beautifully. Bad enunciation can be very distracting for me but with this book I was so engage, I forgot i was listening to an audiobook and was able to become immersed totally.
I am looking forward to the next instalment of this story. I feel quite invested in the main protagonist now and would like to follow his adventures, provided the narration continues to such a high standard.
I would highly recommend this book, it is an entertaining premise with good character development. Well written and well narrated.

Good Strong Pace

Fallout by Karla Forbes is a new author to me and it was a good exciting start, Nick Sullivan is our hero here but it starts with him and his work friend also his boss when they go sailing and on their way back to the marina they see what looks like another boat in trouble, his friend immediately and eagerly offers to help but Nick just wants to get back home which would have been a better option as his friend gets murdered and Nick just about scrapes away with his life. When Nick finally gets dragged out of the water he goes to the police and of course who is going to believe him when nobody else has seen these 3 men, and they seem to have vanished off the face of the earth. Few days's later Nick is wanted for murder and that his wife was having an affair with his boss and is pregnant, so not a good day all round, only one thing to do as nobody believes there are 3 men so Nick decides he will find them himself and also wants to find out why kill somebody that is helping you what have you got to hide? Very intricately woven story and the edge of your seat listening great story that's come to life and the narrator Craig Bowles did a brilliant job.

Action packed

This is the first Nick Sullivan book, which takes you on an action packed adventure, full of murder, mystery and suspense as Nick sets out to prove his innocence. I found it a little slow to get into Nick's character and the story, but once it did it kept up the intense pace and thrills all the way through. The narration was great and captured what was happening and the characters. I'm looking forward to meeting Nick again in the next installment.

Crime novel with novel twists

Enjoyable crime novel which features some interesting and unexpected events. Narration was good and matched the characters well. A minor observation , it might have been a little shorter. Overall, well worth listening to

Thrilling fast paced story

I loved this audio. This poor guy narrowly escapes with his life after offering help to the crew of a disabled ship and then finds himself a wanted man for murder of his best friend whilst trying to find the men responsible and prove his innocent. I was hooked from the first word.

Fast paced

Nick Sullivan is out sailing with his boss when they come across 3 men in a boat with engine troubles. Nick's boss boards to try to help and one of the men cuts his throat. Nick has to dive overboard to escape. That's where his troubles begin as the police don't believe his story and he goes on the run to try to clear his name.

I hadn't read anything else by Karla Forbes so didn't have any expectations and was pleasantly surprised to listen to a very well written, fast paced thriller. The story draws you in from the start and there are plenty of twists and turns. Nick is a very likeable, believable character, though has far more than his share of bad luck.

Craig Bowles narration was excellent and he coped very well with the different voices.

The book left me wanting.more Nick Sullivan action and I am disappointed to see that Audible UK doesn't have any of the other books in the series in its catalogue!
