Summary

Born into a family of five, Frank Bello grew up in difficult circumstances. His father abandoned his wife and children. Left with no male role model, Frank found inspiration in heavy metal bass players, following their example and forging a career with Anthrax from his early teens - first as a roadie, and then as the group's bass player.

International stardom came Frank's way by the mid-to-late 1980s, when he was still in his early 20s, but tragedy struck in 1996 when his brother Anthony was murdered in New York. Although the case went to trial, the suspected killer was released without charge after a witness, intimidated by violent elements, withdrew his testimony.

Two decades later, Frank is a father himself to a young son. Like many men who grew up without the guidance of a dad, he asks himself important questions about the meaning of fatherhood and how to do the job well. This is the wisdom which Fathers, Brothers, and Sons offers listeners.

Frank doesn't preach or seek sympathy in his book. Instead, he simply passes on the wisdom gained from a lifetime of turbulence, paying tribute to his loved ones in a way that will resonate with us all.

A chanced missed.

This is a good story and history of Frankie and Anthrax. Frankie is great reading his story but, it makes me feel if this is a chance missed to put in depth history of Anthrax into this book.

Got The Time, it just needs more

Enjoyable listen. Frank comes across as a really sound guy. I just can't help but think that there are parts which were vague and they're the parts that, as a fan of Anthrax (and Helmet), I was expecting a bit more depth.
His story is fascinating; his family/non-musical life takes up a decent portion of the book, and that's not a criticism at all. You get a genuine sense of what Frank is like as a person. Honest and straight to the point.
Overall, I think the one thing that sets this book apart from other autobiographies is the delivery. Listening to it's entirety (in a single session) was like sharing a beer with the man himself. He mentions in the book about talking to the listener as a friend, and I definitely related to that.

made me reflective

Have been a massive Anthrax fan since Frank's first album with them. Remember him flying around the stage in Bermuda shorts in Hamburg at my first gig 1987. His energy and leave everything on the stage attitude blew my mind then and does to this day. I was expecting the tales from the road but found myself really inspired by Frank's delve into his motivation, insecurities and sincerity. It felt like a self help book at times, in a good way. Overall a massive thumbs up with this one, actually feel like I enjoyed it more him narrating than me reading (love the New York 'uman and 'uge accent! Well done Frank and thanks!
