About this listen
Finding Heaven in the Dark is a multiple award-winning memoir, and a moving personal account of William L. Ingram's odyssey through rebellion and redemption that led to his discovery of lifesaving and life-affirming Christian spiritual principles.
As a black African-American son of an unwed mother, and a child of the post-World War II baby boom generation, the author struggled with secret anger and a confused life view. His self-destructive rebellion, and desertion from the US Marine Corps in 1967, turned into a cross-country trek that ended in a skid row rescue mission in Los Angeles, CA. There the 17-year-old fugitive was forced to confront his personal demons.
Finding Heaven in the Dark explores Mr. Ingram's introduction to the ancient Judeo-Christian practice of meditation, and it's "be still and know" prayerful, meditative exercise. This is a key in awakening the individual's consciousness to the authentic spiritual self, which prepares the soul to be healed at it's broken places.
