About this listen

In the aftermath of a deadly alien invasion, a band of survivors fights on....

For Hawk pilot Finn Erickson, flying is in the blood. Since the aliens decimated the planet, he spends most of his time flying Hell Squad into combat. With communication to other survivor bases cut off, he has no idea if his family is still alive and feels their loss keenly. But helping to fight back sustains him, and his quadcopter is the only woman he needs. She doesn't argue with him...unlike a certain redhead who is one hell of a kisser.

Lia Murphy lost her mother and sister in the invasion. She vows never to get emotionally involved with anyone again, and as head of the drone team, she's always busy with work. But one cocky, arrogant pilot pushes all her buttons. When Finn issues a challenge - a fly-off in the flight simulator - she can't resist. But she's not sure if she can accept what he demands as his prize if he wins...her. In his bed for one night.

But as Finn and Lia's fiery attraction heats up, so does the battle with the aliens. The pair must work together to reestablish communications with other humans and discover what the aliens are hiding in a mysterious area to the north. In the process, they will face the most dangerous alien creature yet, and be tested to their very limits....

Flyboy

Hawk pilot Finn Erickson was born to fly. Since the aliens decimated the planet, he spends most of his time flying Hell Squad into combat. Fighting back against the aliens helps him with the grief of not knowing if his large family are all dead. He lost hope a long time ago and now flying is all that sustains him. His quadcopter is the only woman he needs. She doesn't argue with him...unlike a certain unforgettable redhead.

Head of the drone team Lia Murphy lost everyone she cared about in the invasion. She will never risk her heart again. And even if she were to consider a new relationship it would not be with a cocky, arrogant flyboy. Finn pushes all her buttons and when she spends a night with him after losing a challenge she wants to put it all behind her. Pity he doesn't feel the same and her dreams are all filled with him.

As the two work together on a plan to re-establish communication with other humans their attraction heats up but to complete the mission they will be tested to their very limits... To succeed they may have to sacrifice everything including their lives. Love may only be an illusion for these frenemies.

Anna has done it again. Finn and Lia are a force to be reckoned with and the story had be laughing and crying in equal measure. I am now halfway through my Hell Squad binge. Deep breath and onto the next one.....

Awesome book

Once again another dramatic and intense story from this incredible series. These two narrators did a great job with all these books. Cannot wait for the next book now

A risque bet and a happily ever after await....

The Book

A risque bet leads from constant bickering to love and a happily ever after in this action packed sci-fi romance. Very steamy

Have you ever watched a movie where the building tension was so great that you were on the edge of your seat with your hands over your eyes, desperate to know if the good guys got away, but with your pulse hammering and your heart in your mouth, you just couldn't bring yourself to look? Well 'Finn', the tenth book in Anna Hackett's terrific, action packed sci-fi romance series is the book version of that film and I really didn't want to put it down. Don't worry if you haven't read the previous books, there's enough background in this one that you won't feel that you've missed too much.

It's about two years since the alien Gizzida invaded Earth and the refugees from Blue Mountain Base have been at The Enclave, the revamped former coal mine south of Sydney for about a month. It's a tight squeeze, but everyone is adjusting to the new situation, some faster than others, and everyone is pulling together to survive and try to reclaim their planet.

Finn Erickson is a Quadcopter Pilot who fell in love with flying as a child growing up in Norway and it's been his obsession ever since. He used to be in the United Coalition Air Force, but now spends most of his time with Hell Squad when he's not having almost daily arguments with Lia Murphy, a former supersonic jet Commercial pilot and now leader of the Drone Team, about what a pilot really is. Catching Lia at the end of a training session, he decides that a competition to see who's the best is in order and proposes a bet with high stakes....

I don't want to give spoilers and ruin it for those who like their suspense, but I really couldn't believe Lia accepted such stakes, having said that, I can also understand why she did. Both Finn and Lia have painful memories from before the alien invasion, both are lonely and in need of some serious stress relief, so why not... Only things don't turn out quite the way either of them imagined when those pesky things called feelings start to get involved. Then there are added complications when a signal dead zone is investigated and communications with other groups of survivors across the planet become a priority.

This story is filled with terrific characters, horrifying aliens, new and old, situations that are action packed, explosive, deadly and had me on the edge of my seat hoping against hope that the good guys would get away. This book has lots of humour as well some serious steam leading to a happily ever after for Finn and Lia. The story continues to build on everything that has gone before and the characters evolve like old friends, which I suppose, having read the previous books, they are.

Anna Hackett is one of my all-time favourite authors and an amazing action/adventure romance story teller. I've read a lot of her books over the years, she never disappoints and this one is a very definite winner. Another amazing adventure that had me hooked from beginning to end, and I can't wait for the next one in this terrific series.

I absolutely loved it. I really wish I could give lots more that the 5 star limit and it's definitely on my list of books I'd rescue if the house was burning down.

The Audio

I'm totally addicted to this series and I got this as an ebook when it was first published nearly five years ago. I'll freely admit that I've read it a few times since then, but I now have intermittent problems with my eyes, so I've turned to audio books to fill my need to re-read my favourites. I did try audio books a few years ago, but the narration was so bad, even dreadful, that I gave up on them for quite a while, however, Anna Hackett seems to get significantly better narrators than some I've listened to and I'm overjoyed to say that the two who narrate this series, Jeffrey Kafer and Samantha Cook are incredibly good, truly the exception rather than the rule. They managed to maintain the gritty fight for survival action adventure nature of the book and I highly recommend it to any lover of all-action, alien invasion sci-fi wrapped in a little romance with a few steamy bits for added spice. Having listened to 'Marcus', the first book in the series and been really impressed, I got all the other books in the series that are available as audio versions to back up my kindle versions, just so I don't get withdrawal symptoms when I can't read them. This is my review of 'Finn', the tenth book in the series. The audio versions also have the added bonus of allowing me to do other things whilst listening. I find I listen a lot more than I read these days and have already listened to this one several times since getting it. As I'd already posted an honest review of the ebook several years ago, I decided to update that review with my personal opinion of the audible narration, especially as I have been so disenchanted by audio books in the past.
