About this listen

Flora Stanza has sub-let her London life in a bid to join the family antiques business. Her knowledge of antiques extends only to the relics of information she has crammed from frantic daytime TV watching, but what she lacks in experience she makes up for in blind enthusiasm. So she is more than a little put off when she doesn't receive the warm country welcome she expected. Her curt, conservative cousin Charles and his fiancee Annabelle are determined to send Flora packing, and their offer to buy out her recently inherited majority-share of the business is tempting, until a strange warning makes her think twice.

Stuck with a cat about to burst with kittens, Flora has little choice but to accept the offer to stay in an abandoned holiday cottage miles from any neighbours, let alone a trendy winebar. And between fighting off dinner invitations from the devastatingly handsome Henry, and hiding her secret eco-friendly lodger, William, Flora soon discovers country life is far from dull as she sets about rebuilding the crumbling business.

Good story prefer reading it

I like this novel a lot but I believe parts of it have been missed out of the narrative and it was in three long chapters rather than 26 in book

A novel with charm and spirit

Although at first glance the world of auctioneering seems as stuffy as Flora's cousin, like her, you soon get drawn in. Flora has an independent spirit mixed with beguiling charm, to say nothing of her cats! I only wish the novel were longer as the abridgement leaves you with odd gaps in details of the story.

Lovely, easy listen

Heartwarming, charming and amusing listen. Enjoyed my second time listening to the story as much as I did reading this the first time round.

A slightly abridged version but still a delight

An enjoyable easy listen, with a wonderful performance by Emilia Fox. A classic Katie Fforde.

Audible version different to book

The audible version skips large chunks of the book!I like to switch between the audio and hardback which I found very challenging to do due to this.

Very Basic and Predictable

This story is very predictable, and you can pretty much guess what is going to happen from the first chapter. What is also weird is the relationship between the main character and her cousin.... I found it a bit cringe worthy at the end and incestuous. This could just be me.
I think a young adult or teenager especially would enjoy this book.

Disappointing :-(

I normally love Katie Fforde but this just bored me- It didn't have any depth and the characters were not interesting or loveable.

Try a different Katie Fforde.
