Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Dark secrets, an unexplained death and an old country house lie at the heart of Georgette Heyer's classic murder mystery.

The Priory may look ramshackle in appearance, but Peter, Margaret and Celia are totally charmed by their newly inherited country house.

But there's more to The Priory than meets the eye.

Left empty for years, hardly a single person has set foot inside, and down in the village, the locals whisper of a ghostly figure that roams the halls....

When a murder is committed, the new owners start to fear the rumours are true - but is their new home really haunted, or is someone trying to scare them away?

Oohh Scary...

In places I found this quite scary. Maybe because I was listening at night, in bed, in the dark. The story and the narration are good enough to make me feel I was actually in the house so that when the 'ghost' appeared I was almost hiding under the bed clothes. Of course it comes out okay in the end, but for a time... I can really recommend this, though if you're like me, you might want to listen in daylight or with the lights on!

Enjoyable, doesn't strain brain

I found this an enjoyable listen. The narrator on this is a lot better than some of the readers of G Heyers detective books. I did spot who was the master crim quite a way off but still enjoyable lite classic detective fiction

Bonkers Story - Great fun!

' Matt Addis is just heaven on a stick! His variety of voices, male or female, bring all the characters to life and make for a great listen. . He is especially good with Georgette Heyer but I’ll take anything he reads.

The story is a little like an Enid Blyton for grown ups. We have secret passages, mysterious moans, dark villainy and plenty of suspects. With Heyer of course there is wit, action and although of its’ time a nice feisty heroine. Splendid entertainment. Recommended.

Well I was so surprised by this book as it isn’t the usual story the author usually tells - BUT WHAT JOY THIS BOOK GAVE ME …

From the first to the last chapter it was brilliant!!!

Beautifully performed!

narration

A fun listen, though a hackneyed plot. The narration was very good, no trouble at all distinguishing between the characters.

An enjoyable read

It was pleasantly scary. Kept me reading late into the night. At times I was glad I wasn't alone in the house. The reading was good and characters came across quite clearly. It was probably predictable and old-fashioned, but it's the way I like a mystery.

Poor stuff

Scoobydoo meets The Famous Five. This was a terrible waste of time and money. Disappointing.
