About this listen
How can my enemy want me when no one else ever has?
Oil and water. Shifters and mages. There are certain things that just don’t mix. But I’m in Porter’s Peak for a reason, and I’m not about to let a pack of wolves drive me away. And I’m certainly not going to fall into bed with the alpha...not even if he says we’re fated mates.
But evil magic is swirling around town, and the only way to keep my new home safe is to team up with the alluring older shifter and try to find the cause of the problems. As we grow closer, my resolve to stay out of his arms is slipping. No one has cared about me enough to stick around before...why should I trust an old enemy to be any different?
But evil magic is not the only problem, and when secrets threaten to tear us apart, we might bring the whole town down with us. Can we put aside ancient hatred and forge a new path? Or is our bond doomed from the start?
The Magic and Claws series features shifters and mages coming together and finding their mates. There is no MPREG.

Enemies to lovers, fated mates
Great start to a new series.
Leo and Zac were great characters who initially clashed because their respective groups have fostered mutual disrespect and even hatred towards one another.
I love this new world filled with magic, mages, shifters, mystery along with plenty of action and danger as both groups have to work together to defeat a common enemy.
New to me narrator did a great job of bringing these characters to life.

Nice first in a shifters/mages paranormal series
I really enjoyed this first in a series about shifters and mages coming together – in more ways than one – in a small Maine town. There is a nice balance here between plot and romance, and just enough backstory to set it all up. I would definitely continue with this series. The narration by BJ Whimpey was pleasant and nuanced.

Interesting new series!
As a fan of Liam Kingsley and Jill Haven, to read this book 1 in a new series was a must especially when in audio. The amazing plot, opened a whole new world of shifters, mages and fated love in between action, intrigue, some mysteries, a feud and a lot of danger. Leo and Zac's story kept me at the edge of my seat throughout the book until the very end. The audiobook's format gave the story a plus as the wonderful voice acting of Mr Whimpey and his charismatic performance really brought the characters alive. Simply wonderful!

Love the story and want more
I loved this story and the characters. There is so much angst and drama from the very start with Zac and his foster family. Then, just as things start to look up and Zac thinks he has found a home, his future and happiness are side-tracked by lies, secrets, and dark magic. Can he learn to trust the wolves when he is a mage and the two groups have long been at odds? Is love possible with the Alpha wolf Leo, or will the past tear them apart? Truly, I love the world here, with magic, and tethers to keep the mage grounded. A unique and entertaining view. That said, and in spite of rating it five stars, I felt like the authors were a bit clumsy with the big conflict between Leo and Zac. With Leo knowing how Zac had felt betrayed by one close to him keeping secrets from him, and with their bond as fated mates, I could not buy that Leo would knowingly make the same stupid mistake. There must have been another way to bring drama if more was needed. Personally, I think the drama with the dark mages was enough. Still, I enjoyed the story, and I am really looking forward to seeing Dylan find his tether, and maybe his mate.
The narration is great, and raises an already fantastic book to another level. I loved the expression of emotion, especially from Zac.
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Good enemies to lover story
A new series featuring mages and werewolves.
Zac and Leo were interesting characters, I liked the premise of the story - 2 paranormals that need to band together for the greater good, even if they don't like or trust each other. The story execution is good - kept me engaged throughout.
This narrator is new to me - I think he did a good job with the narration overall. There some characterisations I didn't really feel, but didn't detract from my enjoyment. Would listen to him again :)

Enemies to lovers with nice variations
I love the enemies to lovers trope and I love a good story about mages and their work so this was right up my alley. I have read lots of other books by this pair of authors and enjoyed them all. This was no exception. The MCs were very well drawn and their dislike for each other at the beginning was deep enough that you did question how they would overcome that and get together even though they had a fated mates bond. I liked the amount of time the authors took to get them together, I found the threat believable and scary and I enjoyed meeting a new pack and starting to learn about a new world. These authors are good at world building and demonstrate that skill again here. They introduce their worlds in pieces and let you figure some things out on your own, or make educated guesses before giving you all the information. Thankfully, they also never just dump huge gobs of information on you. They let information flow naturally from the plot and from conversations characters have with each other. Looking forward to more in this series. This was a new voice actor for me and I liked him very much. Pacing was good, characters were distinct and all the emotions were spot on. Hope he does the rest of the series.

Nice Kick-off to the series
Liam Kingsley and Jill Haven did a great job with the start of the series. BJ Whimpey did a brilliant job with the narration. A series to keep an eye out for, luckily book 2 is already available.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
